Hi, I just got an old satellite receiver from my grandma. She had it hooked up to a BUD for pay services. The receiver has a C and Ku band mode so I was wondering if I could use it for FTA on the Ku band. If possible would i be able to use an old dish network dish and LBNF?

Does anyone know how to program a satellite into this? I hooked it up to my direct tv satellite system to see if there was any promotional channels I could pickup but I dont even know how to get the reciever to reconise the dish position or how to get it to even use the dish?

the SQ530 is an old analog receiver and will pick up the few analog channels still up on c-band and the feeds on c & ku band
it would require the big dish . a small dish just won't work for it.

although the some of the analog channels are FTA its not the same as digital FTA that a DVB receiver would get.

Ok I thought it was analog but ive never heard of an analog signal being sent on the ku-band. I have a 4' primestar dish and the origina lbn. I know that primestar used some kind of different lower freq. ku is that what this reciever needs?

Also what is video chipper? I think ive seen it next to channels on FTA channel listings. Not sure but the reciever has it.

Sorry I dont know what you mean I am a complete newbie to fta. What would I need to hook the vertical and horizontal outputs of the primestar lbn together? Just a Regular Multi-switch?

My primestar dish is 48" wide and 51" tall.

Where can I find a list of the FTA channels that I would get with this setup? Should I be looking for FSS Ku-Band channels?

If all you have is an analog receiver, then you SHOULD be able to use the multiswitch. Make sure the voltage settings are correct on your receiver. Hook the proper cables to your LNB from the multiswitch, then run the multiswitch output to your receiver. The proper voltage (13 or 18) from your receiver will switch between vertical and horizontal on your multiswitch. It is what you will have to go with for now til you get a digital receiver.

BTW:

There is an analog test card on 85 west. That's all that is on during the week. On Saturdays there are ton of analog feeds out there from sporting events.
