I have a VIP 722 DVR. I am trying to solve a "clipping" problem, defined as: the beginning or the end of the recording clips content from the intended recording.

Imagine these events are set to record on Monday Nights:

Priority 1: USA Network, 7-8PM
Priority 2: ABC Network, 7-8PM
Priority 3: CBS Network, 7-8PM
Priority 4: NIK Network, 8-9PM
Priority 5: NBC Network, 8-9PM
Priority 6: FOX Network, 8-9PM

All events are scheduled to begin 3 minutes early and end three minutes late.

This is what will record on the VIP722:
Priority 1 will record 6:57PM to 8:00PM, clipping last 3 minutes of intended recording
Priority 2 will record 6:57PM to 8:00PM, clipping last 3 minutes of intended recording
Priority 3 will not record
Priority 4 will record 8:00PM to 9:03PM, clipping first 3 minutes of intended recording
Priority 5 will record 8:00PM to 9:03PM, clipping first 3 minutes of intended recording
Priority 6 will not record

What would I see on a Hopper?

Since most of those are local channels you wouldn't have any problem if you used the Primetime Anytime feature. One tuner would record all four major networks from 7pm-10pm(depending on time zone) and the other 2 tuners are free to watch or record other shows. If you have an antenna and use the OTA module then you can record yet another OTA program.

As Scherrman said, the Hopper has three tuners and PTAT uses just one to record all the Big 4 Networks. The 722 that you are using has just two satellite tuners. So trying to record three things off the two satellite tuners at one time will not work. You could use the OTA tuner to record a third channel.

Thank you. Will these six events appear as six discrete recordings, or do the Primetime Anytime recording appear as a block? It could be several weeks before we watch any of these shows and I heard that Primetime Anytime erases content after 8 days.

The recordings are discrete and you can save individual programs beyond the 8 days. You can also set up Series Record off of PTAT to individual programs and it will save them in your space until you delete them.

Thank you. Series Record off PTAT is smart enough to add the three minutes before and after even if there is another event (like priorities 2 and 3 above)?

Changes to All American Direct channels????

New guy an upgrade question
