"Jericho," "Friday Night Lights" and "Showtime Championship Boxing" Join the Action on Universal HD in January


BURBANK, Calif. – December 20, 2007 – Universal HD opens 2008 in a big way with new films, series and sports events – all in life-like, 1080i high-definition. New series premieres for January include fan-favorites "Jericho," "Friday Night Lights" and "Kidnapped." In addition, Universal HD adds "Showtime Championship Boxing" to this mix, along with a slate of new feature films and new, themed nightly programming. The announcements were made by Dan Harrison, Senior Vice President, Emerging Networks, NBC Universal Cable.

"We've packed the schedule with great new series, feature film premieres, boxing and other sports," said Harrison. "Universal HD is going to make an impact with viewers in 2008, with programming geared to take advantage of high-definition, big-screen TVs. The viewer at home will notice the difference as soon as they flip to Universal HD. "

January is full of feature film, series and sports premieres on Universal HD. It all begins on New Year's Day with the "Robocop" Trilogy Marathon, starting with the original "Robocop" at 3pm, 9:30pm and 4am (ET), followed by "Robocop 2" at 5pm and 11:30pm (ET) and "Robocop 3" at 7:30pm and 2am (ET).

The New Year also brings Universal HD's new daily-themed programming. Sports Wednesdays debut on January 2nd with "Showtime Championship Boxing" on Universal HD." The first match, Tarver vs. Santiago airs at 8pm and 11pm (ET).

The first Big Movie Thursday of the new year on January 3rd is huge, with Universal HD premieres of "Full Metal Jacket" at 5:30pm and 1am (ET), "Hotel Rwanda" at 8pm (ET) and "A Cry in the Dark" at 10:30pm and 3:30am (ET).

Drama Friday debuts on January 4th with the first episodes of fan-favorite series "Jericho" (6pm, 10pm and 2:30am (ET)) and "Friday Night Lights" (7pm, 11pm and 3:30am (ET)). The evening is rounded out with "The Usual Suspects" at 8pm (ET) and "Bonfire of the Vanities at 12am (ET).

Sci Fi Saturday returns on January 5th with the first episodes of "Battlestar Galactica" (at 8pm and 12am (ET)), "Threshold" (at 9pm and 1am (ET)) and the premiere of "Species II" (at 10pm and 4am (ET)).

Crime Sundays start on January 6th with the first episodes of "Touching Evil" (at 6pm, 10pm and 2am (ET)), "Kidnapped" (at 7pm, 11pm and 3am (ET)) and the premiere of "Blue Steel" (at 8pm and 4am (ET)).


Cult TV rewinds the week's episodes every Monday night, beginning January 7th with "Jericho" (6pm, 10pm and 2am (ET)), "Friday Night Lights" (7pm, 11pm and 3am (ET)), "Kidnapped" (8pm, 12am and 4am (ET)) and "Six Feet Under" (9pm and 1am (ET)).

Comedy Tuesday brings the laughs, beginning on January 8th with three Universal HD premieres – "My Girl 2" at 6pm and 12am (ET), "Soapdish" at 8pm and 2am (ET) and "I.Q." at 10pm and 4am (ET).

Harrison concluded, "Not only have we created themes to make the channel user-friendly for our audience, but we've also created a new graphical look that enhances the entire network and creates an immediate impression on viewers and presents many ways for advertisers to integrate into the programming."

Holy crap, UHD actually has something new on!

Ferris Bueller's Days Off is one of my favorites. Looking forward to archiving it in HD!

Glad to re-watch Jericho season 1 too!

I wish they would continue Northern Exposure. What's up with that. They ran two seasons, and then re-ran it, and re-ran it.... for a whole year. :rolleyes:
 
I know this was reported in a DirecTV thread, but just saw Ferris Bueller on UHD --- stinking commercials!!!!!!!

While they didn't edit it, there was no reason for them to make this move. Pissed me off something big-time. I can't wait for this channel to just die. :(
