UF Now SEC Champs.. National Title game??

hey, i'm not buying tickets. i'm a disabled veteran living on a fixed income. some nice kind soul would have to buy those tickets for me.

i posted the recent poll standings to show that opinion might be shifting. the talking sports heads were more or less saying the gators would have to move up to number 2 to have a chance.

ETA: the los angeles times, citing a BCS source, is reporting its ohio state and florida to play for the national championship!!!

Florida played 4 teams that were in the top 25 and won three out of the 4. They were 2 for 2 on top 10 teams, but the highest ranked team was 8. Michigan finished 1-1 againts the #1 and #2 ranked teams. Oh I forgot to mention that Michigans only loss was away against the number 1 team in the country and they only lost by 3.

Both Michigan and Florida deserve to be in the National Championship game. We will just need to wait to see how the cards fall.

So ...
We need Michigan to play Flordia for the right to play Ohio State ....
How hard was that to figure out ?

Better record? Scared of a rematch? If I we're a buckeye (what the hell is a buckeye?) I would be scared.

Why ????

I really could care less who Ohio State plays
If you really want to get it correct according to RECORD, Ohio State should play Boise State, they are the only other division 1 team still undefeated.

There are two teams with one loss and Michigans only loss was on the road at OSU by 3pts.

Any gambler will tell you that home field gives you a 3 point advantage.

At some point someone will have the stones and stand up to the NCAA and all that bowl money and come up with a playoff system. It works in every other division of football and in every other sport.

Every college that gets snubbed or thinks they "deserve the right" to play in the national championship should look in their mirror and point the finger at themselves for not forcing the powers at be to scrap the BCS.

Of course the otherside to this mess is what happens if they do have an 8 team playoff?

So for arguments sake (you think picking teams 1 and 2 are hard)
which of these teams belong in the top 8? (BCS standings wk of Nov 27th)

7 Wisconsin 11-1 6 2176 .764 6 1221 .775 .590 8 .710
8 Boise State 12-0 9 1872 .657 9 1018 .646 .720 11 .674
9 Arkansas 10-2 8 1890 .663 8 1042 .662 .660 6 .662
10 Notre Dame 10-2 10 1765 .619 12 928 .589 .670 5 .626
11 Auburn 10-2 12 1680 .589 11 985 .625 .640 12 .618
12 Oklahoma 10-2 11 1743 .612 10 994 .631 .410 15 .551
13 Rutgers 10-1 13 1558 .547 13 777 .493 .610 14 .550
14 Virginia Tech 10-2 14 1298 .455 14 744 .472 .400 17 .443

Hell the NCAA cant decide who the top 65 basketball teams are!
This is why I favor a 12 or 16 game playoff...
That way the 17th place team can't say, hey we got left out, it doesn't take a whole lot to be in the 12-20 range, if your a decient team.
Also this way the TOP teams don't get screwed.

Record does not mean everything. If that was the case then all the major teams would schedule cup cake schedules. Reward the teams that play a tough schedule. If Boise State wants a chance they should schedule a little tougher schedule.

Way to many teams. You would never be able to play a 12 team playoff (unless you give a bye week) and 16 is just to many. Like you said it is not to difficult to be in the top 20 if you are 1/2 way decent team. If there is going to be a playoff only take the top 4 or 8 teams. You should have to be more than decent to have a chance at the championship.

double posting......coaches usa today and AP polls are out and FLORIDA is number 2.....woo hoo!!!

all i want for christmas is a pair of tickets to the national championship game!!!

GO GATORS

btw, i wonder how many games michigan would win if they played in the SEC!!!??

If they played in the SEC or played Flordia's schedule ?
The SEC isn't as loaded as you all think, sure the top teams are there, but the bottom feeders are there as well, it seams that you look at the bottom of the Big Ten when you decide that it stinks.
Hmmm....

Let's see :
Alabama Very average
Arkansas Very good , this year, no history
Auburn Good to very good, this year.
Florida Very good this year, normally in top 10
Georgia Good this year, some years better than others
Kentuck Not very good , ever
LSU Very good, normally top 15
Mississippi Not very good
Mississippi State Not very good
South Carolina Good not Top 10
Tennessee Good to Average,Should be better
Vanderbilt Not very good

Michigan Probably would have 1 loss, maybe 2, depending on what schedule they drew this year.

Flordia 's schedule had 5 gimme's on it. Southern Miss, UCF, Kentucky , Vanderbuilt, W. Carolina, not to mention the fact I didn't count Alabama as a gimme.

I agree with you, just pointing out that some say a loss is better than another undefeated team, I agree, I also feel that you do not nessasrily have to win your conference to get to the Championship game, it's happened alot prior to this.
IF only the conference winner could go to BCS games then there would be an awful lot of SEC teams screaming as well as Big Ten.

I was just pointing out that Boise was the only other team undefeated, not making a casse for them as much as they would like it.

actually, alabama was ranked in the top 25 when we played them.

at one time this season, we had florida, tenn., alabama, auburn, lsu, georgia, and arkansas in the top 25.

and if you read over at espn.com, michigan played more sub .500 teams this season.

btw, kentucky is bowl eligible this season, south carolina is going to be better, arkansas has played in three SEC championships (but never won)...........lsu always tough, auburn usually tough, alabama will be better.....played in a bunch of early SEC championships, georgia usually tough, tenn always a contender. only ole miss, miss state and vanderbilt are periennial losers!!

8 is too few, you would really get teams screaming about getting left out then.

I think we figured out how to do a 12 team, but that was about 4-5 weeks ago and don't rememver how we determinged seeting at the moment.

I would be in favor of the BCS's top 12 regardless of conference champs exc., they would have to be in the top 12 if they won their conference, except for the Big East that was not there last year.

Yes Florida did have a stronger Strength of Schedule, but not by much. Florida is ranked 1 and Michigan is ranked 2 upon many sites.

One thing that all of the people clamoring for a OSU-UM rematch haven't seemed to have thought about...what happens if Michigan wins a close rematch? Ohio State could say, "Well we already beat them, so why should they be ranked ahead of us?" In such a scenario, would the Gators be declared champions if they won their bowl game? If the Buckeyes won, Florida would just say, "Well, what did you prove? You had already beaten them!" I just don't see any good coming out of a rematch.

Well then, Ohio State IS the only one UNDEFEATED, why bother to play against a team that has one loss. Ohio State already has the better record, win or lose, Ohio State will have a better of equal record to whoever they play.

Lets just declare OHIO STATE the National Champ !!!!

Oh ya, the networks would like to make money, thats all.

Ohio State 2006-7 National Champs !!!

actually, back in the 1996 season, florida lost to florida state in the last regular season game. they won the SEC championship and a rematch against FSU in the sugar bowl.

fsu was number one, i believe ohio state was number 2 and the gators were number 3. arizonza state beat ohio state in the rose bowl, setting up the winner of the sugar bowl as the national champion. well, florida clobbered florida state and the rest was history.

personally, i don't like rematches when the stakes are high. my rationale is simple.....you had your chance once and blew it. now, if florida had lost last night, i would have no problem with a michigan-ohio state rematch.

i absolutely have no problem playing michigan for the right to play ohio state. but you know the powers that be can't think that scenario through!!!

A few years ago, like 2-3 there was talk about a "and 1 " game after the bowls played out, strangely , I have not heard about that at all this year.

btw, I think M and Fla would be a great game.

There is ONE big difference...OSU has already beaten Michigan.
