Two Breaking News Items

I think the press release from DTV can be interpreted to mean the Appeals court decision months ago. The one that ordered the FL judge to issue the injunction. I don't think they mean the recent ruling from the appeals court.

I agree. There was nothing in that that talked about today.

After reading some fine print it states that the $150 rebate is only available to certain zipcodes. I have a partial address that is of a city that currently does not get locals on either system which would qualify people for distant networks in that city. I get local channels in a different DMA though so that probably would not apply to me. They probably got confused with the address and sent that deal to me. That is probably DirecTv's promotion to switch customers off of Dish Network that are affected by the distant network stations. It says that the offer runs out sometime in February and that is the time that my Dish Network annual is up. They said they only had a limted supply of portable DVD players though but it would not make sense to switch yet when I have norefundable annual programming paid.

I am in a "white zone" and my zip did not qualify me for the $150. They know how screwed we are so they don't need to offer anything extra.........

I did not know that you could still have pre-paid annual programing (receive a discount doing so?) but it always surprises me to hear customers state they can't change services (I would recommend adding them) because of some commitment. Nowadays with leased receivers it could not be much. We all have bought some high priced equipment in the past to enjoy HD this Winter, so even if there is some charge why not add it or pay it and enjoy the Service of your choice now? If you can get a really good deal from D*, wouldn't it be like receiving it free for several months anyway, so why not just add it NOW to your present service? Enjoy both now.

Of course you are correct. This is patently obvious. But the rabid anti-Rupert crowd smelled a conspiracy and were off and running - suggesting bribe taking by the judge in public and who knows what else behind their closed minds. I'm waiting for one or more to publicly apologize to the judge. Hello? [crickets chirping].......What is it about Ergen that creates a Manson-like adulation from some people. Maybe it's just the name Charlie?

Why would I want to pay two different providers for what is about the same type of service? That seems wasteful to me. I might as well wait until the last day that the Directv offer will be in place and if I cannot get the $150 offer anyways then I might as well wait since it is the same offer that everybody else is able to get. I know someone else that got a letter too just up the road from me that is a Dish Network subscriber. They should not have advertised the $150 off and so forth if they are not going to be able to honor it in this area.

That could change next year with DirecTv's plans. DirecTv will then be the HD leader unless Dish has some things up their sleeves.

I couldn't beleive the offer I got in the mail today from Directv. Four rooms with free DVR or free HD upgrade installed free. I expected that. I did not expect to see free portable DVD player, $150 in programming credits ($10 a month for 15 months), Free Starz and showtime for a year, and I did not see the $5 charge for the locals either, and the DVR or HD package fee waived for 12 months. I never seen this advertised elsewhere with those extra's like that. They seem to be getting very aggressive now. I added this up to be around $750 in extra's in addition to the free setup.

They are offering this on their web site. I filled out an order to check it out and gee, the most important item to us reads:
DIRECTV® HD DVR

Record, watch, pause and rewind your favorite high-definition shows.

Due to unprecedented demand, we're taking a waiting list for this amazing receiver. However, if you order today using another receiver, you can register for the DIRECTV Plus HD DVR priority list and you'll have the first opportunity to see the future of television.

The total package for me would be $81/month for 12 months, $23 off. Right now I have the 622 and 3 times the HD for $75/month with $20 off. Their offer isn't all that aggressisve, what a free portable DVD player, if it is made like their DVR I don't want it. I am happy I switched, and I am bringing family members with HD sets with me. We are all leaving DTV.

They are sending out these offers to people that will not qualify for the offer. Seems like a misleading offer they are sending to people to me. The $150 rebate offer is only for those affected by the distant network issues.
