Two and a Half Men

I believe we have seen the last of this series, and its probably for the best. Still, we were talking about wrap up episodes over in the HIMYM thread. It looks like this one cuts off abruptly and just leaves everything hanging.

I feel for the kid. He just drew his last paycheck for at least 6-7 years as an actor, as he needs to mature before starting to find character roles. He simply isn't pretty boy enough for teen comedies and too normal to be the quirky best friend.

the kid was making $300,000 and episode this past season. He was not in every episode but I still have a hard time conjuring up sympathy for him.

The kid wasnt a kid anymore he was just this goofy lump. He was better when he was younger.

Was a great show though and Charlie didn't really have to reach to far to play the character as he was basically playing himself.

There were episodes of Sanford and Son without Redd Foxx, episodes of all In The Family without Caroll O'Connor and they even managed to retool the Andy Griffith Show to survive without Andy (at least they changed the title). Given the stakes here I think they will try to go on without Charlie.

Someone in the comments of the referenced thread mentioned bringing in Matt LaBlanc, adding a drunken plastic surgery episode and moving on. Matt is under contract for "Episodes" on Showtime (and doing a great job there), but that sort of thing could be done. They did that with Valarie Harper back in the '80s, replacing her with Sandy Duncan. However, it is usually considered a jump the shark moment and they only get a few episodes to wrap it up.

I'd also expect that they would have to pay off Charlie and I don't think that's going to happen. Easier to just kill it.

If it is gone, it is gone. I am not sure there is anything to really wrap up. Charlie is a drunk; Alan is Alan. Jake is a goof. Would we really think this show would end with Charlie marrying and becoming the model husband; Alan finding his way, and Jake all of a sudden becoming the model kid? The show is what it is; and sadly, Charlie Sheen and Charlie Harper are the same person, and eventually that caught up with him.

The show was funny, but crude. If it is gone, it is gone. its not like HIMYM, where the audience has a NEED for closure, since the entire show is premised on the answer to the question.

I wouldn't look for it to be coming back next year, unless Sheen seriously gets is act together and his attitude in check. Pretty bad when his family comes out and speaks openly.

Just have to remember that actors are hired to say their lines convincingly and look good while doing it. They are not hired based on their moral character, intelligence, service to the community, etc.

Many have no idea how to handle the money they receive from their jobs. The ability to live the high life all the time can lead to their downfall. It would not surprise me to see Sheen bankrupt in a few years if he does not turn his life around.

They are also hired to show up on time, ready to work, and to promote their product to the general public. Lots of actors have been fired over the years for not delivering on these things. A production dies just as quickly if the actor is continuously absent or arrives in a condition where he can't perform. Think Judy Garland.

And a few others. After his contentious remarks about the producers yesterdeay on talk radio, another reason why they might not take him back if he doesn't get his act together. Sounded like a drunken tyrade.

Bankrupt??? Hell, he'll be lucky if he is alive.

It is time for two and half man to go. The shows this year were not funny and the scripts have been stale. how I met your mom is also getting old and may have 1 season left.

I would agree there is no logical way to end a show like this. It would logically just end. Even HIMYM has outgrown its gimmick. It could end with the appearance of the mother or if they find the right fit it could go on from there. but the notuion that there is something to wrap up here makes no sense to me.

reminds me of the Chuck Lorre "saying" at the very end of the show.

It went something like this
"I dont drink. I dont smoke. I dont do drugs. I'm not a womanizer. If Charlie Sheen lives lounger than me I'm gonna be pissed" :)

But with 177 episodes in the can, they could bring in $1 billion in syndication.

The article was talking about what would be lost with the total 32 episodes (8 this year, 24 next) that have already been contracted for in syndication deals.
