TV Station Launches Multiple 4K Broadcasts OTA on ATSC 1.0

I don't recall that >AVC is provided for in the DTV specification.

Scan converting to 24fps can't be a happy situation.

Many still get their local channels via MVPDs that may not be set up for intake of HEVC.

Finally, we really need to move to a standard that provides a better modulation scheme (higher data bandwidth and better reception characteristics) than DTV offers as TV seems likely to continue to get encroached on by wireless.

Well, Bits is Bits, after all. As long as the Receiver has the necessary decoding CoDecs, whatever is encoded on the ATSC channel should be able to be pulled out and displayed. There is a LP up in Michigan (northern Lower Peninsula) that is doing something like this on their station. Unfortunately our Dish ViP receiver and the HDTV we have aren’t equipped to decode anything other than the primary .1 channel on MPEG2.

Time to upgrade, I guess!
