1440 is still in the experimentation stages. What is 1920 x 1080? Also do they make 1440p tv's yet?
Dishlover said:Most HD is 1440x1080 packaged in a 1920x1080 channel. It's like what an upconverting DVD player does- 720x480 to 1920x1080. However, Dish with mpeg4 can transmit any resolution it wants and that is usually 1440x1080. It's how they cram more HD channels in. The STB can convert it to 1920x1080.
And here is for ALL High Definition TVATSC Table 3 Formats for DTV Transmission
Vert----------horz---------aspect----------fps/scan
1080---------1920----------16:9--------24p, 30p, 30i
720-----------1280----------16:9--------24p, 30p, 60p
480------------704----------16:9--------24p, 30p, 30i, 60p
480------------704-----------4:3---------24p, 30p, 30i, 60p
480------------640-----------4:3---------24p, 30p, 30i, 60p

Really? I had no idea! Where can I read up on this?
Do they distort the image when they re-encode it at 1440 wide so that when it stretches back to 16:9 the image looks right? Or are they doing some sort of zoom/crop thing?

Read the article on HD Lite. HD Lite - Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaI don't see where the wikipedia article says that dish uses that goofy 1440x1080 resolution.
