also a lot of stations in Canada, while they use the "common name" is a basterdized version with lots of the same reruns and Canadian shows. Basically a channel that wants to come into Canada one of the big owners in Canada whines to the CRTC and gets thier own version of the channel

examples
HGTV
TLC aka the 8 kid chick channel....that show is on all the time
DIY
FOOD
Discovery
History
Nickelodeon
MTV
MTV2
G4

ESPN Classic Canada is better (IMO) than the US version
NHL Network is a wash...they have stuff on the US one that Canada doesnt see and vise versa

What is happening more and more now, is that the Canadian channels are repeating the same episodes sometimes two or three times in a 24 hour period. They also only have a limited number of episodes.
The reason you do not see the US versions of the channels in Canada is that they have to meet strict Canadian content rules, as well as programming rights issues.
Here is the link to the new Comedy Gold channel (the rebranded TVLand Canada channel)
Comedy Gold - Schedule
I certainly don't like this trend in repeating episodes throughout the day to fill the programming as I have a PVR.

I agree Larry...I understand maybe a 3 hour difference for both E & W but replaying it 3 times a day times 2??

Now since it became Comedy Gold I guess I'm not missing much. I too don't like all the 80's shows replayed several times over in one day.

TVLand has been increasing the number of time slots devoted to infomercials, and that has been very disappointing. The reality shows are also quite annoying. Viewer are looking for RETRO TV, not just a re-themed version of today's network television. MTV did the same thing, but then again, as the demise of The Tube proves, money dictates policy. TVLand is a totally different network than they were when they first launched. Fortunately, there's also RTV, which offers an alternative. I watch both, but I wish TVLand hadn't changed as much as they have.

I don't watch TVLand much anymore, since they started airing programs such as "Everybody Loves Raymond" and "Extreme Home Make Over". The only retro left seems to be "Bonanza", "Gunsmoke" and "Andy Griffith Show".

Remember the trivia spots about the episodes they used to air? Little items like who guest starred or behind the scenes info, long gone...

It was FTA for years only with the retromercials. Boy has that changed, now they superimpose the end credits over the program while it's still running.

I remember Nick & Nite from the 80's. If you want to start a "new" TV retro network all you would need to do is find old copy of TV guide from the 80's and to air the sames shows in the respective time slots. No thinking involved.

TV Land just flat out sucks nowadays. It went from one of the few channels that I would watch on cable, to a mere afterthought. Then again, most of the cable channels that I have just aren't as good as they once were. I think the reality tv craze that started around the year 2000, gradually started to ruin most channels. If it weren't for the channel bugs, I wouldn't be able to tell most of them apart.

I read the following on a TV land forum:

TV Land does not own every classic TV show it airs. Most are owned by a variety of distributors who can determine where and when their shows appear. TV Land is just one of many outlets for these shows. Once a show's license expires on TV Land, we can no longer air that show.

That may be true. In fact I know tv channels have to license the content they show but if you are smart you make sure you renegotiate before your license us up.

That post makes it seem like TV Land has no control over what they show, which is silly.
