TurboSilver HD...the final say

You might as well just change packages but of course it will cost more. It may be awhile before they're able to get everything on the strictly HD packages. The nice thing about the Dish Network website is you can change what you want online and within minutes its on your TV.

It sure worked great the first time I tried it online but the second try was a little shady. The online message said that I can not change (aka downgrade) programming online BUT ONCE A YEAR. I tried to cancel Starz two months ago online but oddly I still have it. Coming to think about it I have totally forgotten about cancelling it due to other everyday crap.

Dish is like a freaking casino.

I downgraded my package online this week, but didn't know you could only do it once a year. I know if times get too tough, since my wife and I have our first child on the way, I always have the option of switching to TurboHD Bronze and still having all my dvr stuff and saving $10 more a month.

It was and still is on the website. Clearly it has not been updated in a while.

JFaber, thanks for the link. They are advertising something that they are not delivering. Up to now, most posts on the problem could have been people's misunderstanding of what DISH promised, but with nothing in writing. Maybe there was never any intention to mirror classic HD channels in the Turbo packages. However, the link clearly, to me anyway, shows DISH directly saying that the Turbo packages have the HD channels in the corresponding Classic tiers.

I think it is at least bait and switch or false advertising. I'd like to hear from someone with legal knowledge. I think a class action suit is in order. You have it in writing.

I see your point, but keep in mind that they are delivering more than that advert is advertising (if you look at the channels listed, not the 100% promise for eternity).

I think it just shows that Dish had good intentions with the creation of an all HD package. Hopefully they can get past all the road blocks before getting beat up too badly by the customers who feel betrayed. Especially from the customers who received the highest price increase.

If they just came out and said Viacom prevents us from providing these HD versions to you without also providing these SD channels without HD versions, that would probably solve most of the problems. Jim DeFranco needs to shut his mouth though and not justify the large rate increases for the Turbo subs on new programming to be added like he did in December when the rate increases were announced.

Exactly!

I think what has happened since the creation of both HD Absolute and Turbo-HD is that the providers in their negotiations have begun specifying some conditional associations between their HD and SD programming.

It would be foolish for Dish to treat their Turbo-HD customers this way if it were not a contractual problem with the providers. I'm not saying that Dish has not done some foolish looking things.

If a provider wants a specific HD channel on as many subs as possible, they may allow or specify that the channel be put in all HD packages - even HD Absolute (such as CMT, BETJ, Spike, etc).

However if a provider wishes to tie multiple SD and HD channels together, they might specify it so that only the HD add-on to the Classic packages gets the HD channel.

I think this became a little more clear when 3 unexpected channels WERE added to HD Absolute - WHY? I think the provider put it in the contract.

You have heard Charlie and others say that they were trying to get or looking at getting the new HD channels added into the non-Classic HD-Turbo packages - that sounds like contractual constraints to me.

And while it would be nice to know what some of the constraints on packaging are - it's really none of our business - even the divulging of contractual specifics may be prohibited by the contract.

Contracts

I don't have much experience with contracts, but I'm thinking that maybe DISH can't say much as negotiations are worked on. It's hard to believe that they wouldn't communicate basic information to their customers. Then again, it would be nice if they communicated about their inability to communicate.

Also downgraded and got the same message, went from turbo silver to bronze, ditched platinum, and setup the box to connect to my network. Thats $25 less a month they will be getting from me from now on. Good job dish.
