Is that bbc converter available anywhere else online other than directv?
If the cable was good for sd, it's probably good for hd. If it's copper clad and over 100 ft or so, it could cause issues. A tech might be able to test the lnb, but you would have to swap it to find out if it's good or not.

I'm using this, would this be a problem?
My guess is...interior designed splitter stuck between two trees. If so.........probable water damage.Also, if between the dish and the receiver...expect half transponders to be missing.Can't see enough of it to tell.
You need to start over.
Get a short new cable to the dish. Put a tv and the receiver next to the dish. Close enough where you can see the small numbers on the tv from the dish. Straight cable from the dish to the receiver. See if you can get 101.
