Hi guys,
I have no problem to get signal from Galaxy 3, AMC 4 and Intelsat Americas 5. Now I'm trying hard but can't get any signal from Galaxy 13/Horizons 1 at 127.0°W. I have three questions:
1. Can I aim at Galaxy 3 first and then just move from east to west? In another word, do all satellite have the same angle?
2. Should I use all the same parameters as Galaxy 3 except changing TP frequency to 11720 and symbol rate as 26800 since I'm trying to get reception for the Chinese channels on the satellite.
3. How do I use the compass for 127.0°W?

I'm totally new for satellite. Any sugestion is welcome?

Thanks a lot, Tom. So basicly I need to try at all different directions, up and down, left and right. Could you tell me how to read a compass? What's 127.0°W on the compass?
Thank you for your help!

If you are on G3 right now your dish has to move 32 degrees to the right or west (from behind dish) Use the compass, again stand behind the dish and take a reading, then calculate where +32 degrees will be and move the dish, its only a guide, best also to use a coordinate finder that will give you the exact angles to point to G13/H1.

If you give us your zip code we can tell you the elevation angle to set your dish to for G13/H1 Good Luck!

1. No, satellites often require different elevations. Go to a good dish-pointing site such as Sadoun's (http://www.sadoun.com/Sat/Installation/Satellite-Heading-Calculator.htm) and let it tell you the numbers you need.

2. What other parameters you got? Things that stay the same (LNB LO number, switch setting, whatever) should stay the same. Things that change (frequency, signal rate, PIDs, whatever) should change.

3. Buy a $5-10 compass that shows degree markings; it's a huge help in eyeballing the correct angle. But that "127W" is the longitude of the satellite, not the direction you need to point. That direction will come when you plug in your position and the satellite you're trying to see into a satellite pointer.

Hi carload,
Thank your for your help. Could you tell me where I can buy a satellite pointer and its price range?

Carload means by a satellite pointer, an online program that you enter your zip code or latitude and longitude into and it calculates your look angle to any satellite, as I said give us your zip code or your nearest BIG town and we will give you the angles needed : ) Other wise click on Carloads above blue link that is a "satellite pointer" I use this one.......

Thanks, PSB. Can you recommand any tools which can show the angle (elevation)? My zip code is 01864.

Here is your Lat and Long.

42.6N Lat.
71.1 Long.

I would save your money, get the pole plumb and level and use the elevation markings on the dish. But here are a few ideas...

I have a quesion, Is there anything in the clear on KU to watch on G13? Haven't checke it on Lynsat lately.

A little.

Edit: Pete beat me to it. I found 9 Asian channels in the clear, and they were a huge help in getting my dish set up. I mean, I was trying to get G10R, but at least I found out exactly how far I was off. :D

I just scanned in 15
