True need for Sling

Up and running my laptop to access Dishonline and works great from far away from home. My question is this, the only need for the Sling is to access your recordings on your DVR, right?

You also can watch any channel live that your receiver can access. To me that feature is worth it's weight in gold.

The 922 has sling built into it, the 722(k) and Hopper can use the Sling Adaptor which current cost is $50. Other receivers would need to use one of the Sling Box units. The cost would depend on which unit you would want or need.

There are reports of unreliable operation of the Sling feature in the ViP922.

The 922 works fine. I had one for years prior to my hopper and I don't have any major complaints regarding the sling functionality.

It realy has improved!... For about 4 months it didnt work, 1 1/2 years ago.....It works now 99 out of 100 now.
