I hooked up my tailgating satellite dish and can't get a signal on satellites 101 or 119. Signal strength on 110 is 99. I used the same dish last season and had no problems. I have since checked the receiver and cables and found no problems. I'm thinking I have a bad lnb. Any thoughts?

By the way, I have the slimline dish with the AU9 LNB.

Thanks.

First, is your mast plumb? This is very important. Second, be sure you are pointed at the 101 satellite. I'm guessing you aren't. Also, check all of your connections and equipment in a working setup, if you can.

I have check everything except the LNB in a working setup. All things worked perfect. I actually ending up using the dish from a guy that was set up next to me. I hooked one of my cables to a splitter from his dish and had not problems. I also used a level to confirm the mast was plumb before I did this.

Last football season, once I got a signal on any satellite, the others were very close. Typically, once my receiver booted up, I could find the satellites and have everything working within 5 minutes. If the ground was reasonably level, I didn't even need to check the plumb of the dish. Tha's what's confused me this year. I'm showing no signal at all on 101 and 119 and a full signal on 110. We spent the better part of an hour adjusting the dish and never got a hint of a signal on either of those satellites.

It could be a bad lnb, but my money is still on a pointing issue.

I set up everything in my yard last night and initially had no signal. I double checked all of my settings and everything was perfect. I then thought I'd check the angle of the dish using an iphone application and it showed my angle to be about 46. My setting on the dish showed 48 which is what it should be for my location. I adjusted the dish to 48 using the iphone (which made it about 50 to 51 on the dish indicator) and got a signal strength of 95. Something obviously got a little bent since last football season. So you guys were correct, it was a pointing issue. I'm glad I didn't buy a new LNB. Thanks for the advice.

Practice , Practice , Practice :up

JT ....what iphone app are you using?

I'm curious...I bought the "Dishpointer AR" on iphone that gives you an indication of line of sight ...obstructions etc....which is kinda cool. Just wanted to know if Im missing something that might help with my HD finding issues!

HD findings are no different than SD ... you peak the 101 and the 99 and 103 should fall into place, dither to get max signal.

Yes, JT,
I am looking for the same APP for a android phone if you can remember what APP it was and about how much it was and where to find it.

Thanks,
Jimbo
