To DirecTV or not DirecTV (Many questions)

Even though they are in the "satellite business" there is no reason to not include it. They "should" be in the "make there customers happy" business. What reason is there to not include it except for two reasons: 1) they plan on rolling out local channels in EVERY market or 2) there just being cheap S.O.B's. If I had D* I would be especially frustrated since it could be found on the HR20 and now they take it away?? Besides who wants to switch inputs on there tv just to go to locals when it could very easily be in your guide.

Check out Scott's posting on the external OTA tuner for the HR1. I think that was what the installer meant!

I saw his post on the usb ota tuner. It sounds like it could be a good solution for those that get stuck with the 21 series.

Perhaps it is regional. We received our installation last week and the installer used a H20 as our high definition receiver.

A company (worth it's salt) can't just be in a GENERIC "make customers happy business" mode; that would be a sure fire way to go straight into the bankruptcy toilet. Especially when it comes to a product they DO NOT control or service. I am sure they are tired of however many or however few complaints they get over various OTA reception issues. They are not responsible for ANY of these OTA issues; and not having an OTA tuner in the box is an EASY way to not have to deal with issues that are NOT their problem.

Business is ALL about making your customer happy. How else do you stay in business other than making your customer happy. Granted, this wont end D*'s business, but it sure doesnt help in signing up new members. And this isnt about a service they cant control (OTA). Its more likely its about them saving $0.13 per box so they dont have to put in the coax connection. The software is already there since it was there on the HR20 box. E* has it on there 622 and 722 and I dont see any complaints, at least not in this forum anyway. Its silly to believe they didnt add it because too many people have reception problems with it. I cant say for sure why its not there, but in the end more options are USUALLY (and I mean usually, NOT ALWAYS) better than less options. And, in this case, I cant see how leaving OTA capability from the HR20 to the new box is a bad thing. Its already there, and it makes your customers happy. Why remove it and give customers a pain in the behind.

thats actually the first decent argument ive heard as to why they shouldnt have OTA in the HR-21. The only problem i see is that they are going to continue making the HR-20 100 so any complaints would stillbe there, although possibly lessened
