TIVO AND PHONE LINE

If Tivo unit is connected to cable, is it necessary to have phone line connected after initial set-up? Don't have a phone jack nearby and would have to run a cable across the room to do the set-up. Any input appreciated.

It's going to depend on which TiVo you're asking about. Give a specific series and model number.

Haven't decided yet other than it will probably be a series 2. Am currently looking for a used one with lifetime service on ebay.

Alright. The S2 standalone TiVos have USB ports which can have Ethernet adapters, either wired or wireless, plugged in for broadband access through a home network.

Thanks bidger. I have pretty much done that now. Am considering the wireless set-up. Just fighting with myself over which way to go - wireless Tivo or TW dvr with the associated monthly fees.
