Hi
In reading some of the other
quesytions,I
will come of as totally
unknowledgable
with this
satellite
system.
Why is there a few
seconds
delay when I change
channels
?
No Biggie, but annoying.
Thanks
Norsky

Yup, cause its digital
i thought it was a bad delay also... until I went to visit my friend in flordia this last week. She has Brighthouse digital cable and the delay was way longer than my dish recievers do.... I was shocked

Analog has next to no decode: Get RF, Detect Video and Audio with one simple stage. Digital: Get RF, send to digital bit decode and check what it is. It is valid, send into buffers, align bits to sync up, send to error correction area, check output format, encode for the format used. Maybe output it to the user. Takes lots of time.

Really the biggest delay is the stystem usually needs to wait for a key frame before everything is truly synced up and that can be several seconds without even taking into consideration what Barry posted.

See ya

And if you have a DVR, it takes a bit to write to disc and then read back off of disc.

Rdinkel,

WRONG, Dish DVR's have at worst less than one quarter of a second delay, between DVR receivers and NON-DVR receivers.

I have several Dish receivers some are DVR's and some are NOT. There is a bigger delay between a Model 4000 and a newer NON DVR receiver than there is between a 301 and any Dish DVR receiver.

I have superimposed different NON DVR recievers with my Dish DVR receivers and their is virtually no difference, really only a slight Echo effect from the less than a quarter second delay.

The biggest reason for a Channel display delay is, as stated before, waiting for a Key Frame to sync up the video and Audio.

Yep. Analog can be picked up and displayed immediately. Digital signals must wait to be decoded starting from the key frame. All digital- OTA, satellite or cable.

I had to learn to use the EPG vice channel surfing.
