A bit of Irony if the former Tiger can finish off his old team! I always like Weaver, still do. He loved Detroit and the organization. He was committed, and he was a stellar pitcher for us to have with the commitment he had. I always assumed that part of the reason his game started to slip after being Traded to New York was because he was dissapointed that Detroit was not committed to him as much as he was to Detroit.
I am glad to see he is doing well again.
It appears that the Tigers are starting to show their youth and in-experience now. Ever since they left to play in St. Louis, the errors, and mistakes are piling up fast on them. That is not intended to take anything away from St. Louis. They are playing mistake free Baseball, and taking advantage when the Tigers make their mistakes. That is textbook baseball!
I hope that Verlander can pitch the way he did in game one. (Less the four runs). I have not questioned Leyland's decision's much this year, (I learned my lesson after Questioning Joe Dumars' trading for the Pistons' a few years ago, and he ended up landing us a Championship)! However, I am questioning putting Verlander in for game 5. He is too young, and get's rattled too easily when he gets runners on base, (like most young MLB pitchers). For that reason, I would start Kenny Rogers. The veteran, with the most confidence in the MLB right now, is the best bet to beat the Cardinals tonight.
It has come down to a gamble. Hopefully Verlander can get through 7 innings and not allow more than 2 runs. If he allows 4 again, we could be seeing the end of a great year of baseball.
The Tigers gave this one away last night. However, to the Cards credit they persisted and came out with the W. Hmmm. The Tigers are down 3 games to 1 to the Cardinals in the World Series....where have we heard this one before.

This is depressing. As for Verlander throwing tonight, what alternative do we have? Throw Rogers tonight? Then Verlander throws tommorow. Either way he has to win. We have a young staff, and they got us here. Time to finish what they started. Down but not out.

and last night i would say the tigers lost as much as we won. you did have some big errors. and like in 68 we did have a 3 -1 lead and lost. but we have 1 more game at home this year and that helps. IF we win tonight, i hope pujols has a great game. as you know his WS performance is lacking. hes such a great player and wants to win so bad it would be nice to put his stamp on the series.

Can Detroit do the same thing for when the ball gets hit to a pitcher... have a designated thrower .... PLEASE !!!
It DEFINATLY became a mental block for Detroit's pitchers, no other way to look at it. That will HAVE to be overcome.
Detroit's pitching won't go away like Chicago's did this year.
A years playoff experience will do them wonders for future years.
None of them have reached thier prime years yet, except for Rogers of course.
So I am not worried about them.
I look for Detroit to be around for the next 4-5 years and improving with more experience.
Verlander looked nervous, and could not shake it till like the third inning.
He's 23, the core of this group ( Bonderman, Zumaya, Verlander) is 24 and under, except Rodney and Robertson they are 29

Going into the playoffs, I knew of Carpenter and how good he was.
I STILL think we can beat Weaver, for some reason not this week.
Suppon I had no idea how good he would pitch, don't really know anything about him.

Had they not been playing Detroit I would have been rooting for them, unless Minnesota made it, I like thier team real well too.

Way to go Cardinals!!! I think it's Detroit's turn next time. Lets see the Cards won in '34, the Tigers in '68, the Cards in 2006 ... I think we'll get you in 2044. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be seeing that game ...lol.
Ditto, on the kudos. St. Louis has been to the mountain top acouple of times and finally got the prize. In my opinion they have been the best club in the MBL for the last few years. As for my beloved Tigers, I wont let this series diminish what has been an unbelievable season. There isn't a person here whom in their wildest dreams in April, could have imagined them being in the world series. Great job guys!
thanks guys. baseball is GOD in this city, we really do love it!! and we have had some bad times in the past .1985 upset by royals (no umpire jokes needed) twins in 87 where home team wins all the games, buts kicked by redsox in 2004, damn!! been a long time since sutter and 1982. it feels GREAT!! and from a personal point, i make my living off sports( frontpagenewssports.com) hope thats not spam. it will be GREAT to not have to go on the road for 2 weeks to peddeal my wears. in fact, 2004 WS brought me to this site. i made a killing with the redsox. went out and bought the big screen hd and all the bells and whistles, in looking for info and what to buy i came across this site, and glad i did. helped me alot!!thanks!! though as much as i love my tv and hd, i love a WS better!!! thanks guys!!

Dan, that sure is a beautiful ballpark you guys built down there. Befitting a top 5 baseball city. The other 4? NY (yankme's and Mets), Chicago( Cubs and Sox), Boston, and of course DETROIT!
You are right about Championships. Pistons, Wings, The Shock, some women's football team whose name escapes me (Oh hell, who really cares about that?) and U of M. In that sense we have really been blessed. On the other side of the coin, we have suffered through some dreadful baseball teams the last 12 yrs. (119 loses just 3 yrs.back) And don't get me started on those freakin' Lions. They've rebuilding since their last championship, 2 days after I was born in 1957. One playoff win in 49 years. Most years they are out of contention by Halloween, this year no exception. FIRE MILLEN!
While we're congratulating the Cards - how about a some recognition for the St Louis fans. It seems to be fairly typical for some fans to nuts and try to burn the city down in response to their team winning the championship. Not so with St. Louis. The police were out of course, just in case - and bored to death from what I've read. St Louis has always had the best fans in Baseball.
