I came home to a ticking sound and flashing light from my 721. All those nice things I've said about that 721 just recently! I tempted the gods and no good deed goes unpunished.

Pressing the remote power button did nothing. Had to pull plug. After a while, a message to the effect "downloading drive image" appeared. Oh, great, 60 hours of recordings down the toilet! Including 2 pay per views I never finished watching. Then it shifted to a white background behind some "typed" words:
YOUR DISK HAS FAILED
You still have some service available
yadda yadda yadda

BUT WAIT! IT GETS WORSE!
The CSR said it's out of warranty. I said no, I am paying $1.99 per month for insurance, I'm grandfathered under the old plan, I was assured it would continue after I upgraded to the ViP622 and HD Gold.

IT GETS EVEN WORSE!
No, nothing here- it was dropped in April. I said I never authorized that. She said "you upgraded to the new plan $5.99 per month and then dropped that" I said no, I never authorized that (who would?) and I want it reinstated- fine to back charge me. I believe I saw that $1.99 charge continue on my bill after the upgrade, and never checked since. You have nothing in writing and no recording to show I ever changed or dropped that insurance.

EVEN WORSE:
"I'm sorry sir, it cannot be reinstated. No one can do that." I stated I do not believe that. They screw up and then can't fix it, and I have to suffer and pay for that?

The bad:
Loss of recordings.
Loss of insurance.
Five days or so of no 721- but I have a 508 & a ViP622.

The good:
She/they waived charges and are sending me a 721.

I stated "It's not over yet." So what was that email address? ceo@echostar.com ? I'll wait a bit to calm down, but I intend to get that $1.99 insurance reinstated. And now I'll have to waste my time each month looking over a non-changing routine bill just to see if someone decided to screw it up.

Yes, I guess I've been lucky but now I certainly understand the fury some express against E*. Maybe they'll do the right thing and reinstate my $1.99 insurance. They've certainly made sure I'll think twice before ever defending them again.

I sent off an email to ceo. Let's see if they do the right thing. I'll post here again with whatever the results are.

Always, always, if you don't like what you're hearing from the 1st CSR, disconnect and call back and get another CSR. There is always the possibility that the 1st CSR is inexperienced and/or incorrect.

I've had to do this 3 or 4 times when calling about my account.

DISH DID ME RIGHT!

I received a reply from my email and they are reinstating my $1.99 insurance and not even charging me for the months missed. No RMA charge on the 721 either.

So DISH CAME THRU and did the right thing. Yep, don't accept ridiculous bad news from a CSR, pursue it!

Wow, I didn't think they could put that $1.99 warranty back on an account once it was taken off. Others reported that it got taken off by accident and that it absolutely cannot be put back on. Someone lied and it wasn't navychop.

The saga continues. I started another thread, as it's a different problem. See 721 either 110 or 119

And I'll report back here when I get my next bill showing $1.99 for the insurance (or not).

would you bite that offer?

Houston: Are you having audio sync issues with ABC?
