No , currentlyIs Sunday Ticket 4k?
Channel choice ... sounds like a re selleri dont know if this helps anyone but I got Sunday Ticket through Channel Choice and not DirecTv. They do all the negotiating and stuff for me and all i have to do is worry about paying my bill.
Mickey mouse sports does not currently broadcast 4kI've been told by a guy whose worked for years in the local broadcast industry that the problem is that regular Sunday games, carried on CBS and Fox, are contractually different from Fox's Thursday Night Football, which (as far as we know) is the only NFL game that will be in 4K this season. The regular Sunday games cannot be separated from local affiliates' feeds (i.e. the video stream that they beam out OTA and provide directly to MVPDs) but apparently Thursday Night Football actually belongs to NFL Network and they just share the rights to it with both Fox (for broadcast/cable) and Prime Video (for streaming). Because of that, it CAN be distributed by Fox via a direct-to-consumer nationwide feed that bypasses Fox's local affiliate stations. And that's how they're doing it in 4K. Because there are pretty much zero local affiliates of Fox (or ABC, NBC, or CBS) who are ready yet to broadcast in 4K.
That said, perhaps we'll soon see Monday Night Football on ESPN available in 4K via streaming in the ESPN app, as well as from MVPDs that can handle it like DirecTV, DISH, Comcast, Altice, Verizon, etc.

The actual BTN is lucky to do 480i for thier games, unless alot has changed in the last year ... they have some of the worse coverage for game as I have seen.NBC also did Nascar and Fox as well. BTN (FOX) did collage hoops and football as well. NBC did The Fighting Irish football.

My overall point was that Mickey mouse sports or ESPN doesn't do 4k ... (yet... as thing are always subject 2 change)Fox Sports most certainly does not do "most events". They do like a couple events a week, out of the dozens of live sports broadcasts they do on Fox and FS1 every week.

It wouldn't surprise me to see ESPN make 4K only on ESPN+That's true, although I'd say that the key word there is "currently". None of the others broadcast any live sports in 4K either, until they did.
It's only a matter of time. Hulu began offering original content in 4K this summer on a couple of devices and I assume a much bigger 4K HDR rollout is in the offing. Disney+ will launch with 4K HDR this Nov. So the company believes in the format. It's just a question of when the ESPN app will support 4K and/or 4K HDR.
It wouldn't surprise me to see ESPN make 4K only on ESPN+
That's incredibly unlikely, considering that ESPN+ is the dumping ground for crap no one wants to watch. They aren't putting their premiere content on it, and never will at anything remotely like the current price.
Its a streaming only service...its a logical choice rather than forcing hundreds of cable companies to upgrade their plant to deliver a linear 4k channel
So they're not going to show any of the top tier stuff they show on ESPN in 4K, just the bottom feeder stuff that gets relegated to ESPN+? If they aren't going to broadcast their top tier stuff in 4K, they won't do 4K at all.
ESPN can't put their top tier stuff on streaming because their revenue would be crushed if they did. They currently get almost $10/month per subscriber for linear ESPN, and estimates are that only 1 in 4 cable/satellite subscribers consider themselves a "sports fan". So with a streaming product that only sports fans would subscribe to, they need to get $40/month just to break even. And that assumes they make them subscribe 12 months a year.
ESPN will have to be dragged kicking and screaming to put their top tier content on ESPN+, and there's no point to putting their bottom feeder stuff in 4K. Anyway, it isn't ESPN's problem if not all cable providers are set up to do 4K. Directv, Dish and Comcast are, which is more than half ESPN's subscription base by themselves and there are others (I don't really follow which cable companies can deliver 4K and which can't) They don't care if a subscriber switches from their cable carrier to Directv if they want to see sports in 4K.
ESPNs revenue has been dropping for a while...maybe not ESPN+....more likely gonna be ESPN standalone streaming package in the near future
