Maybe DISH ought to put up a channel that says "WE KNOW YOU ARE STEALING" and put up a special "Amnesty" number to call to turn them into subs or to the authorities, however they want to handle it. Then just encrypt it and not allow it in any subscriber equipment. That way legal FTAers don't see it and legit subscribers don't see it but the hackers will. That ought to create a couple of smelly diapers. :D

They already do. The channel is called "Pirate TV" and scans in on all illegally modified FTA receivers.

They need to change to Digicipher II. Nobody has ever hacked it. That way their data stream is not even compatible with any free to air receiver. Or better yet go with some exotic s-2 stream that nobody has ever heard of.

that channel has been up since DIsh switched to Nagra 2 which was hacked before they even finished the card swap :(

I think one of the reasons DC II was never hacked was that everyone started stealing Direct tv then Dish Network. So the pirates put there efforts in those systems. The money wasn't in C band like with VCII. Wonder what the pirates will do next if Dish ever secures there system?

Once Dish Network secures their system they will move on the next easiest thing to pirate. If they go with VCII then they may start targeting that or DirecTv.

I wonder which one is the most likely and most vulnerable to get hacked once Dish Network becomes secure?

I'm just kinda down about having come up with an idea that is already out there.

Here's my next iteration on the same idea:

Simulcast the UFC fights on an encrypted channel that legit accounts can't see and just run a Promotion for a "free TV". Then DISH can send a field rep from their integrity department to "hook it up". That will give them a chance to see where the hack box is and should be enough to get a search warrant.

can I ask why we are still talking about this? Lets talk about legit free to air and not on how to find ways to curb dish theft.

Secure the signal...there...that's the answer

point of conversation

I think the point of this conversation is this:

The more people steal anything (not just tv) the more the goods or services cost us paying customers.

If everyone paid for their tv - our bills would be cheaper because there would be less money invested in security and equipment swaps.

If everyone paid their taxes - 35 percent of my paycheck would not be taken. I would have more "real" money to spend on cheaper goods and service = more goods and services + higher standard of living.

See .......The more wrong do-ers the more it costs me and you other honest folks trying to live a good decent life and provide for your families:(

You know what these pirates should do? They should get big boats with big sails on them and cruze the Pacific and Atlantic ocean, Then they could rob steal, pillage & plunder transport ships........Just a thought......

A long-overdue development - ignored again

The main capability of satellite programming has once again been overlooked by the providers - true a-la-carte subscriptions. Sure, there will always be hackers, but those of us who pay to sub would like nothing better than to shell out $.50 or $1.00 per channel per month if we could specify which 50 to 100 channels we wanted. A package with one or two movie channels, a couple of distant locals from where you used to live, a single distant sports network, plus the usual popular channels. The FCC is on the satellite programmers' case about this already. Predictably, the providers immediately started to whine about how cost-prohibitive or technically difficult it would be. Rubbish, and the FCC knows it! The technology already exists in the providers' control rooms to flip a switch or press a button and voila, a single channel comes your way or disappears.
To get the channels you want, you have to literally subscribe to perhaps hundreds of others. I already pay over $100/month for two satellite services. I would gladly pay the same amount if one provider could give me most of what I want. But they'd rather spend their profits in other areas. They might not wise up until such services come through the Internet.

i think we are missing the point,

that tv started as a way to bring entertainment and news to peoples homes for free!!!.satillite is just another way of transmitting said signal.if i can tune my ota antenna to recieve local advertised based tv for free, why cant fta be setup the same way.TBS started as a ota broadcast advertised based station when it first came out, then cable came along.piracy will always be here as long as there are no decent free advertised based channels on fta.just like c-band in the early days, only we the subcribers and yes even the pirates can change anything,by letting our governing bodys know that we dont think that the fees we pay for television that is advertised based is fair.you know,"i'm mad as hell and i aint gonna take it anymore."piracy will go to an unheard of place cause it will be harder than subbing.ala-cart is the way satillite was ment to be sold from the start.the only way to stop piracy is to either stop charging for programing period,or secure the stream.only one choice as i see it.

Your arguement invisions a diferent world than what we live in. The vast majority of pirates are the same as the vast majority of hackers, they dont do it to protest an unfair price or an unjust system, they do it for profit profit profit. Every pirate that I ever met wasnt someone who was short on money, most were living better than I was and were making alot of money off of "pirating", I never met a one that was doing it and helping others do it for free to fight "the man".

thats 100% bs , piracy or not you will always pay more for tv , if not how come DTV keeps rasing the price , the signal is secure , so how many of you have gotten cheaper rates from DTV , none .

Not trying to justify it , just stating that its fact you would Save $0 if there signal was secured tommorrow ! Now if I'm wrong I expect my Dish bill to go down as soon as the signal is secure , and oh yea Monkeys FLy:rolleyes:

Amen to that!

I would only want about 15 channels that I like, the problem is... they know that.

All I can say is that I think FTA should have been the next media step from the OTA antenna. But unfortunately FTA is hidden from a large percent of the population (I was in that group until recently). And that is one of the reasons so many stations skip FTA and go for Dish or Direct.

I guess it is the money thing again.:(

Make money from Ads:rolleyes: or make money from ads and make people pay to see them. :eureka::dev

I was surprised to find this: :: B & L Enterprise ::
