I recently moved from a rural area and left my satellite behind...I only really need OTA. Being cheep I am looking at several ebay offerings...like a Samsung SIR-T451, New Motorola Voom model ($40) that is unactivated (would the OTA work?), and whatever else is under about $200.

I am in an area (14221) that I may be able to use an in house antenna but antennaweb.org wants it high or I need something like a Turk DB4..I really don't want to use the roof...I don't have an attic (I could open one), I have a low outside roof with a peak that is 14 feet up.

What products would you guys get?

I accidently ran into this forum today...this is really great!

Welcome issasteve:

1. All you need is a decent UHF OTA antenna, even a Zenith Silver Sensor should work as you are only 25 miles max from any network digital, but it is mostly directional.

2. I would prefer a good multi-directional like:

Antennas Direct DB4
Channel Master CM 4221A

3. It is my experience that if you use a Voom box, make sure it has been ACTIVATED.

Call Sign----Channel----Network----City----State----Heading----Miles----Freq

WNED-DT 43.1 PBS BUFFALO NY 300° 10.1 43
WNLO-DT 23.1 UPN BUFFALO NY 300° 10.1 32
WKBW-DT 7.1 ABC BUFFALO NY 177° 24.4 38
WGRZ-DT 33.1 NBC BUFFALO NY 165° 20.0 33
WIVB-DT 4.1 CBS BUFFALO NY 177° 22.8 39
WUTV-DT 29.1 FOX BUFFALO NY 298° 10.4 14

Thanks

Thanks for the help. There isn't much out there to direct OTA beginners.
I'm going to try an inside antenna as you suggested. (Terk HDtvlp) I'll see how the signal is received and then go from there. Where I live is a bit lower than the land toward the antenna. My present signal, received with the help of a very small passive antenna, is very weak even though the signal origin is only 11 miles away. In fact, I get some Toronto stations (50miles) as wll as I get local stations. I really want to work towards getting Toronto eventually. The receiver/tuner will be purchased once I am convinced that the signal strength is good.

Need some advice...
