I've been an E* subscriber for a little over 8 years and I have been generally pretty happy with the level of service and equipment. However, E* is being particularly slow about adding SpeedHD. I can also get the local PBS station in HD on D* whereas it's still in SD on E*.

One of the things that has been holding me back from switching is the relatively poor performance of the D* program guide interface when compared to E*. I have several friends with D* and their guides are very slow to scroll. Their equipment is a few years old and I was wondering if the new HD DVR is any better in this regard.

I also have a second TV upstairs that I would like to connected. Currently I can do this with my E* DVR. I've heard some people say that you need a second box with D*. Is this true?

Thanks,

Andy

My understanding is that Direct TV receivers all have dual tuners but only single outputs. Meaning you can connect the receiver to your tv upstairs, but it will have the same program on as what is playing downstairs.

Dish of course you can have different outputs for each television.

I need to be able to have different shows on each TV, but also have access to the same programs saved on the DVR. I'm guessing that this might not be possible on the D* DVR?

That is not possible right now. For two different programs on two different TVs you need two receivers. Currently, MRV is not available but it has been widely announced by DirecTV that it will be by the end of the year (for more information you can check out the CE forum)

The guide is getting a lot faster. On each software update it get's faster and faster. The recievers are constantly improving.

Sorry to be the negative guy about this.. but we've been saying that for a year now.. Also, tonight half my timers are now messed up. If anyone comes to D ... do it for the programming, expect little of this hardware.
