We have four TVs and currently have a 922, a 612, and a 622 (2 tvs). Two receivers have to be replaced...we had a technician out today. Would there be a lot involved changing to a Hopper and Joey system? It appears that the cost would be similar...correct?

I would suggest a Hopper and Super Joey, if you want to replace the same number of tuners available for recording. (Five tuners total. And, with Prime Time Anytime feature, you can record all four b'cast nets on a single tuner for a possible 8 channels at once.)

If you go with a Hopper, all your VIP receivers will have to be replaced. I'd suggest replacing them with 2 Hoppers & 2 Joeys ($12 + $12 + $7 + $7 in fees). That gives your 6 tuners (what you have now) + 4TB DVR storage. Currently, I think you have about 1.6TB storage.

With 2 Hoppers and 2 Joeys, it would be $1 more, if my math is correct. With a Hopper, SJ, and 2 Joeys, it would be $1 less.

A second Hopper is well worth the extra $2 in my opinion. Adds a lot more flexibility including PIP on 2 TVs instead of 1 and Hopper has Bluetooth built in.
For me, the added stability, if something happens to one hopper, the second hopper can still support the other rooms in the house. The SJ does not offer that, so essentially you have 4 rooms down, instead of just 1.

Go 2 Hoppers. With one of the latest software, if you have a conflict in recording on 1 Hopper, itr will ask you if you want to use the other Hopper for recording. Great upgrade.

Replace Hopper Internal Drive?
