thinking about getting a Prof 7500

Looking for a 4:2:2 soulution and the A/Z box is kinda pricey compared to a pc based usb.I have been checking out the prof 7500 as the one to get.I would like to use my lap top! its a Dell XPS with 2 gig of ram and a top of the line nvida 7900 series video card in it!The lap top is around 5 years old now with xp on it.Will prof 7500 work with this or will i need a new lab top.My newer PC is in another room so i dont want to use that.

I just setup my Prof 7500 on my 2005 HP laptop, an athlon 3200+ machine. It worked just fine on 4:2:2 SD Feed, and worked just fine on the MSU-UM game in 4:2:0 HD , so I suspect you will okay with your laptop. Good luck.

Thanks Brent for the info!I came really close to buying one yesterday but decided on getting a AZ-box.What changed my mind was the fact that there is no blindscan!have heard that some here have gotten it to work in some degree but still looks like a hit and miss.Also heard that the people that sell the Prof have had abit of a falling out with each other and dont really know about the future support of this product.Still would like a USB for my lab top but for now ill sit on the side lines.

The Azbox is the most full featured box you can get, in my opinion. It's downside is that the menues can be confusing , and all the options a distraction. I enjoyed mine a lot when I had it, so I expect you will be happy with yours.

the newer dvbworld pc tuners woulda been a good choice. cheaper than the azbox and super fast blind scan. its not perfect tho.

I did look into those this mourning and they do look promising!Good support and decent price.I will give my wife some time to calm down abit!When i told her about the AZ-box she almost flipped.I told her we dont really go anywhere so the latest purchase is still much cheaper than going away on a vacation .I still would like i good USB tuner for the lap top to complete my FTA thirst.Hmmmm! nice Christmas present.

do you guys know if the prof 7500 can perform with the nvidia 6150 chip and on XP. it is an onboard chip and i know without the purevideo i might have some problems but could it still be watchable for hd? seems the prof is the one i want to get if it can be watchable without adding a video card.

I'm going out on a limb and say it will work on mpeg2 HD but probably not h.264 HD . My old laptop, with an older chipset than your 6150 works on the Mpeg2 HD just fine, but not having CUDA hardware decoding of h.264, can't keep up with the mpeg4 HD signal stream. You should get PBS HD just fine, and a good bit of C-band HD is still mpeg2. The CW-3000 HD receiver used a Nvidea 6000 series chipset and it handled mpeg2 HD just fine.

A couple months ago, I was looking to upgrade my PC tuner collection, and asked some similar questions. For me though, the biggest parameter, which I didn't see mentioned in this thread is compatability with TSREADER. I think that if you're going into the realm of PC sat tuners, that you should look at what TSREADER can do, before you choose a specific tuner.
I was really interested in some of the capabilities of the Prof and Dvbworld tuners, but since 99% of my satellite time is spent using TSREADER, I just couldn't see getting a tuner that isn't more TSREADER compatable. I ended up getting a TeVii S660. It doesn't have any blind scan capability, and doesn't benefit from the 3rd party programming work that seems to be going on around the Prof, but since it works well with TSREADER, and seems to have a fairly sensitive tuner, I really like it. The only issues I have with the TeVii is that there seem to be some issues with the drivers or TSREADER source dll, and also it has the strange behavior in that it will lock transponders when you have entered freqs and SRs that are WAY off the correct numbers. This might be good or bad depending on your outlook on things, but I think it is a bit confusing. But overall, I really like the TeVii.
Anyway, just putting out another option.

Ok! here is where i plead clueless! I have heard the term TS READER before but i really have no idea what it is and why important!Can you give me a short description on what it is and why is it important. Thanks Stan the LEARNING fta man.

Tsreader is a full featured stream analyzer, with the quick link capability to VLC ( VideoLan) , a nice little free video app. It's a great way to chase feeds. HOWEVER, the driver for Tsreader that Tsreader has, is fairly crippled ( it's a BDA driver) compared with the driver functionality for some of the other cards ( ex, my skywalker-1 ) . The Prof 5000 is still useable under Tsreader, but Diseqc switching, etc is still unreliable, at best.

Use the right tool for the job, tsreader is an incredibly usefull tool for a specific job.

From what I recall, the fact that dw2102.ko handles some rudimentary functions for Prof tuners is nothing more than a Linux-ism, or perhaps Igor-ism. It's just a convenience. The heavy lifting for current generation Prof tuners is handled by stv0900.ko because they use the SVT0903 demod chip, whereas other tuners that employ dw2102.ko may use a completely different chipset and driver.
