Downside to the Treo 700w is that Verizon cripled the full functionality of the device like all its phones.

Verizion has a 6 month exclusive contract for the 700w

Can you be more specific with the accusation on Verizon?

I know of a couple of issues with the Treo700w and the XV6700. But these are Microsoft WM5 limitations. The only one I heard that Verizon had an issue with was the EVDO connection to a BT laptop as the Treo had not implemented it's EVDO properly through BT and that Verizon and Palm are wortking to correct this on the next Treo700w update. Verizon did not cripple this feature in the 6700. While I have not yet tried it, the instructions on how to set it up are in the Verizon 6700 manual. For the time being Verizon is recommending those that need to use the Treo as a modem for broadband, to use the sync cable and a third party application to make the connection.

Actually just go into the file explorer, go to the windows directory, go to the menu and select SHOW ALL FILES. Now go to the bottom and select wmodem.exe and now you can use the VX6700 as a modem via the USB cable.

Scott- I kinda figgured you were busy. I started a thread on the 6700.

I just loaded SPB 3.0 and it works great on the 6700. Makes it much more efficient to navigate to all your applications. Sets up the Today screen with folder tabs and real icons to click on just windows XP desktop.

Just an update-

I'm surprised that this Treo 700w is not getting much discussion on this forum. It is quite the popular phone among many business professionals. I have met over a dozen people this past week who have upgraded to the Treo 700w. All are typical business types and use it for basic commuinications and seem really happy with it. None were power users except for one and he has done a bunch with it using lots of 3rd party applications. He claims it rarely locks up but does need to go in and dump the loaded programs that never exit every so often.

I'm still having some issues with my wife's e-mail and 2003 exchange server where she works. Basically her IT people are not much help. I can't believe how little they seem to understand about their own system. I finally got it to work and set it up to auto receive her exchange server e-mail updates but unfortunately she is locked out of replying or sending e-mail and always gets an error message that the server has refused to "relay her mail as this is not allowed." So, she has to reply to e-mails using our POP3 account which is a task of copy and paste efforts. Her IT dept said she is doing it wrong and needs to use text messaging service from Verizon to access 2003 exchange server. What's with that? Am I missing something or are they just messing with us? Additionally, I understand that in her company now, while IT office is just across the hall from my wife's she is not permitted to talk to them but has to request answers i.e. support through an e-mail but can't send one because it doesn't work yet. So, I'm sure part of the problem is the IT techs just being morons. Very frustrating. I wish I knew more about how 2003 exchange server works so I could just fix it. I got the receive working but the send is eluding me. BTW- she can log in using the PIE login and it works. But that is just as difficult as replying using pop3. If anyone has a clue as to what's causing this error on reply to 2003 exchange server e-mail ( 550 error ) please help as I doubt her IT techs know anything or they are just out to lunch.

I got the AudioVox 2125. It too runs 5.0 but I have not had any issues with it. Not to say there are not thing about it that I dont like just that it does a great job for what it is.

Don have her load Wireless sync on her computer at the office and she should be able to send and receive fine. They key to getting to work is you must leave exchange running on the PC 24 / 7. (You can lock the PC when not in use)

Scott- You lost me on that one.

Her company has dozens of sales people using exchange server to their PDA's and laptops in the field. The company has its own servger for this. When she is at the office, her desk top computer receives and displays her e-mail updates the same time as her Treo, via the verizon connection. I assume it works the same way when she is traveling. Her computer at the office and the server remain on 24/7. I don't understand how running wireless sync on her office PC will help her transmit replys and new sends from her Treo. I thought it was something not set right in her login sequence for her Treo e-mail. Her IT Tech set it up initially but then never tested it. When she went to use it nothing worked. I had to discover the reason and that had to do with the tech guy saving all the mail to her Treo memory which as you know is quite limited. I changed it to the SD card and it immediately received all her folders and e-mail and displayed them as it does on hor desktop at the office. Now we just need to get the Treo to send e-mail replys without generating the errors- "Invalid message recipients" as an auto response from System Administrator reason why the mail was not sent.

Scott- I had a similar issue with my pop3 a year ago where the Comcast tech wizzards decided to make a change in the way the corporate account e-mail was handled. From one day to the next nobody's e-mail would send. On the next day their change without telling anyone now required the check box "requires authentication" to be checked for mail to send or you coun't log into the SMTP server. You could receive fine but not send. I thought this may be something similar.

Anyway, I have her Treo for the weekend and will attempt to dig into their setups again to see if I can find their error on the set up.

Update-

Got it working after many failures. I was going in the right direction, however, with "requires authentication" but that was not the only error they had in the settup.

Save Outlook settings procedure

Recently resolved an issue with the Treo700w where after you enter your settings for an account it would stay but after any reset, they would need to be reentered.

The trick to storing your settings on this phone is in the system memory- programs running.

After you make your Outlook settings changes, you exit out of outlook but this is where it fools you. Yo really need to go into the System settings and go to memory, and then display the programs still running. You will find, maybe among others your Outlook account name still there. Tap on "Stop ALL" then exit out to your Today screen, power off, and now reset the Treo. When it comes back up, you should still have those last settings.

The thing to remember with the Treo is that it apparently keeps a number of last used programs running even when you exit out to the Today screen. Unfortunately, if you reset your Treo while these apps are running in the background, any changes or settings made will be lost. Those are not saved until you can really exit the applications and that would be in the Memory system screen for Programs Stop all.
