The PlayStation Vue Thread

That's why, if you can afford it, you should always have a back-up, like Sling TV, unless it was also hit by the DDoS.

I think before paying for another TV service, I would try to use TV anywhere apps and PlayOn. Doubling my monthly sub fees wouldn't be worth the few days out of the year the PSN would be down.

Now that the PSN is back up, I was finally able to test the PS Vue app update for the PS3. It too is much faster and responsive, better than the PS4 was before its update. However, it's, as expected, not as fast as the PS4 is now. I haven't spent enough time with it yet to see if the PS3's framerate issues are improved as well.

I never noticed it was down, although I was at work.

When I got home it was business as usual for me.

The interface on Roku is a joke using Vue. Very bland unless you like clicking on tiles. lol
The Fire has a guide but no video insert with the guide but it does have a workable dvr with 10 second reverse and ff. Roku is a slip but hard to pinpoint where you are when using dvr.

Great input. I was looking at the Fire or Roku for Amazon, Netflix and Vue/Directv Now, and putting my Bolt back into action for OTA. My rebates are getting ready to expire on Directv and the bill will go up $60/month.

Any variance usage wise Roku vs Fire TV with Vue? I have a new Roku Ultra and a 2nd Gen Fire TV.
Viewing live tv is the same, but the fire tv has a vastly superior interface as was mentioned above. And the skip with the remote.

The biggest thing to me is background audio and video while surfing for another program with the fire. With roku it kills the feed as you look for something else to watch. This is a killer on a college football saturday to me.

Good points. I already have the new Fire TV hooked up in the main HT so I will just leave it there, the Roku can handle bedroom duty. I have to get my Bolt hooked up and start recording OTA so I can get my Genie cleaned off, and then transition over.

Well, spent the day getting my OTA antenna up into the attic using my satellite cable run. Going to just watch the DVR's until they are mty and pull them out. Tivo Bolt will handle CW, CBS, Fox, NBC and ABC, and I grabbed a no fee Roamio OTA for the bedroom as backup for all my OTA recordings and another streamer. Fire TV 2 is in the main HT with Vue setup, I went with the Core Slim, the $44 with all the ESPN's. IMO, the Fire TV's image is obviously superior to what the PS4 showed me, so glad about that...

I agree, out of what I've used the fire has the best pic. Odd that it would look better than it does on Sony own hardware

Guess it comes down to what I have seen from some of these people testing the hardware. The Fire TV 2 whoops the Fire Tv 1 and Fire Stick when the encodes get to higher rates, so maybe having the HP in the proper place matters. I mean the PS4 didnt even look as good as other devices on Amazon 1080p.

You will be surprised how much better the fire interface currently is

You can now watch PS Vue from a PC browser, which is a big deal for me, because I already have a computer connected to an office TV. So now the Fire Stick I bought for that TV just for Vue can be put to better use elsewhere. Visit https://vue.playstation.com/watch/

EDIT: So far I like the interface, but no guide grid that I've found.
