The Pentagon Channel in HD

I am Retired US Navy 22 1/2 years of active duty.. I do not see the use of eating up Valuable HD band width.. Out of the 2.6 Million members of the U.S. Armed Forces. Over 1.5 Million of them are stationed overseas and ships at sea, and never will see this programming.. I am now working as a contractor at a Naval Air base and the base does not allow satellite dishes on the base.. SO how many of my Brothers and Sisters will actually see this programming that is targeting a very small, and specific group of People.. Sounds good on paper but not in real life….

what like HSN2? QVC? OWN? WFN?

Right now Pentagon is not on Directv at all so this would be cool to have in HD....watch it alot via FTA and I was never in the military.

We do have it on FIOS as well as QVCHD, haven't tuned into either one yet. I will look at The Pentagon channel being a vet, but I will never tune into QVC, never look at any shopping channels HD or not.

I guess Yaz wants Dish to use it for such "great programming" as
-Grass growing channel HD
-Paint drying channel HD
-World Fishing Network 2 HD
-Turtle Racing Channel HD
-The Patty Cake Channel HD (videos of kids playing patty cake)

and the one channel I know all Dish subs want...
OPN....The Oprah Porn Channel :D

I am really excited, when will get the Turtle channel HD? ;)

That would be funnier if Directv wasnt going to add the Pentagon Channel HD instead of AMC HD or BBC America HD. Channels people have been requesting for months or years. What's next Babyfirst TV HD?

That makes perfect sense! I know when I am in Germany, and I will be there again in a few weeks, they often allude to AFN. I'll pay particular attention to see if I hear American Forces Network.....

When I had Charter Cable, because it also covered the Ft. Gordon area,The Ft. Gordon public access channel carried the Pentagon Channel in addition to its own local programming. Just because the Naval Air Base doesn't allow satellite dishes, doesn't mean they don't carry the Pentagon Channel in one form or another.

DirecTV to add Pentagon Channel HD

In addition to moving and converting to HD, the Pentagon Channel will do a “DirectTV launch in September (2011)”, Natwick said. DirectTV is an all-digital subscriber service. By broadcasting over DirectTV, the Pentagon Channel will reach “over 50 million households within the continental U.S.,” Natwick said.
This info isn't correct. They will have to have 30 million viewers on other services. D* has maybe 20 million viewers. Even if E* is also going to carry it the total of the 2 would be around 33 million. And that's if EVERY body had HD. This has to be every possible person that would have access to it; Sat, (D*, E*, C & Ku band) plus all terrestrial sources including cable, FIOS and maybe internet.

I don't think you are reading the info correctly. It states that it will reach 50 million households. That doesn't mean the households will have the capabilities to view it.

I believe his point was that using sat HD bandwidth on this is pointless because of the small target audience with the ability to access it through Dish (using the bases' rules against sat dishes to make his point). It being available on local cable doesn't really counter his argument in that sense.

No the local Cable company DMA they do not carry it...

Yes, but will there be a fee?

Why is Channel 240 not on the Eastern Arc?
