The Masters...

So it's finally here, the 4K has finally arrived...now the question. Who has watched the masters in 4K and was you impressed? Seen on a Vizio P-series and a Sony 4K, both looked the same and both was far from impressive thus far. I actually tuned back to the actual HD feed and was more impressed than I was with the 4K. Am I the only one? It seemed kinda choppy when they'd swing the clubs and when they would cut away to the ball landing the trees and other objects seemed like i was watching like an actual frame by frame picture. Thoughts?

For the record, this was 2 different installs today and that kinda made pull the horns back a little switching out 2 receivers for 4K equipment.

I found the VR experience more impressive myself. Just got a Samsung VR headset for free with my phone.

I asked several techs what they thought, the felt the same way. Just didn't look that great. Understanding, it was kinda the "beta" in a sense of 4K but I really expected more than what was being delivered.

I watched both days on a Vizio 70" P. I agree that Friday looked better than Thursday.
Was it better, Yes. Did it blow me away, No.
Some shots looked better than others. I am convinced that not all cameras/shots were 4K.
Overall, I am glad I did not spend a ton of money to upgrade because it would not have been worth it.
To be fair, I am not blown away by 4K UHD Bluray either.
I guess my expectations were a bit too high.

Speaking generally you are in the majority. Looking in AVS Forums there are some who thought their TV was not showing 4K even when it actually was. There is some material where I can see better definition, an overall better picture with more depth but that is almost exclusively things meant to show off 4K. Shorts about travel or nature. But watching shows from Amazon etc just doesn't seem much if any better than HD. I don't have a 4K Blu-ray player.
I don't have Directv, but I am willing to bet you are correct and not all cameras are 4K at the Masters, in fact there are some sports even now that do not have all vantage points in HD.

I watched both days on my 55'' Samsungs smart 4K TV and it looked great but could still use some work on it but for 1st time doing this I give it a thumbs

Wasn't there an issue with RVUs doing 24hz instead of 60hz? Has this been fully resolved? This would explain the choppiness?

Also, do we know how many 4k cameras are actually there? Direct is saying "From Amen Corner" which to me means, they are only 4k at those holes. See: http://golf.about.com/od/majorchampionships/f/amen_corner.htm Is direct ONLY showing these holes and no other action on the 4k channel or are they showing a bunch of 1080 stuff as golfers move around the course?

When you compare the current coverage feeds from other networks (720p60 or 1080i30), to the 2160p60 4k feed Direct is showing, there should be an appreciable difference even if they are just using a 1080p60 capable camera at a different hole.

I actually have a case management escalation scheduled for tomorrow because he doesn't like the 4k quality. Guys an idiot.. kicked out two of my best techs saying he wants someone more experienced in 4k.

I'm not surprised. Seen 2 today. It's a good picture...when it's a still frame! Like I said, I'm looking at it as a beta version. Nothing is ever good or right the first time around.

I watched it in 4K some of the time and in HD at other times on the same TV (Samsung JS8500) which is connected to the HR54 by both ethernet (RVU-4K) and HDMI (HD). Overall, I found that the HD feed (CBS and channels 70X) seemed to have more vibrant colors while being a bit more blurry (as expected) than the 4K feed. It is not clear to me whether the superior color presentation in HD was due to the feed itself or enhanced by the upscaling performed by the TV. One recurrent problem that occurred with the 4K feed was that the audio tended to fall farther and farther behind the video over time. To fix this, I had to change to another channel and then back to 106. It is not clear if this "time-slipping" occurred in the TV or the HR54, but I suspect that it was the latter.

It looked a lot better than the ESPN feed, where the grash was just green mush, in 4K you could see the blades of grass.

But I do think it could have looked better.

Quite frankly the HD feed on line blew away the TV....Hands down. I watched as much of the Masters on line as I could.
On TV I switched off the satellite and watched it OTA. The picture quality was sharp....
