OK so the new 411 and vip211 dont have UHF remotes? Seems like going back to old technology with the IR remotes. Not too happy about that, I liked not having to point it at the reciever. Wonder if the new replacement for the 942 is like this too? The spec sheet for the 411 and 211 mention the aux button can be used to operate a 2nd reciever via ir or uhf. Not sure what that means. Either it is or isnt. Bob P.

I will miss the UHF remote that I use on my 811. I like it when I'm laying in bed in the morning when its kind of cold and I don't want to have my arm out from under the covers to change the channel, the UHF remote will work under them. Now thats lazy ain't it. Don't ya'll pretend that ya'll don't do it either!!!!

I don't have to pretend since I don't have a TV in my bedroom. I've never watched TV in bed. In my opinion, there is only 2 reasons to have a bed, 1 is for sleeping and the other is for (I think we all know what that one is):D

Since when do DISHs bottom-of-the-line receivers have UHF Remotes?

While I like the dual-mode remotes, I'd rather have IR only than UHF only. Is it true the 811 is UHF only? Useless for those of us that use programmable remotes.

I have my 942 programmed into my IR remote, and then I use the original in the bedroom. Best of both worlds.

Doing Sudoku, right? (Well, that's what I've been doing in bed lately.)

Seriously though, I rarely watch TV in bed. But when my wife is out of town, I have to leave the TV on all night. In fact, once when she was gone for more than a week, I actually programmed auto-tune timers so there would always be something familiar on if I woke up.

Not true. The 811 will work with either UHF or IR, I use my HTM MX-500 remote to operate mine. The remote that comes with the 811 is UHF only when set to Satellite but can operate other components via IR. Dumb design IMO.

I also use my UHF remotes under the covers where I can keep myself tucked in and warm.

yup...guilty here too! :up

You mention the 411/211 as "baseline" receivers...but since they are also designed to replace the 811, you would think they would have at least equal functionality.

Are they perhaps going to release a "mid-line" non-dvr HD receiver of some sort, that may include a UHF remote?

I use my 811 UHF remote in my bedroom to watch TV2 and use a universal remote in my living room to watch 811 on TV1. I can do this because the 811 runs off one of the default Echostar Sat codes in my IR universal remote.

But I agree with M Sparks. If there was no default Echostar code in my universal remote, then I would have been up a creek without a paddle.

My problem is going to be when I switch from 811 to 211vip: how will I get a remote to work from the bedroom for watching TV2 ? Hope hpman247 is right.

I've seen some kind of adapter that allows you to use a RF remote in a different room than the receiver is in. It looks like a pyramid and I think they are sold at Radio Shack. I don't know to much about them as I only seen them in customers houses.

I love the UHF remote...
i moved the noisy 510 out of my bedroom and into the living room so the stupid hard drive doesn't make me up at 2:30am when it starts spinning up for some reason,
and I love being able to walk around with remote to turn down or up the volume.

or mess with my mother in law!

as long as they keep it on the 942 replacement and the 522 I'll be happy
