Just a little discussion here....I am not going to give my preferences until a few replies are made....:D

Both Coolsat 5000 and fortec Lifetime Ultra do a good job.
When sorting channels, "preview" feature on coolsat is a little annoying, because it moves the dish back and force between multiple satellites.
But with Coolsat you can change channel list layout: abc, transponder, or "all".
Fortec scanning is two fase: first, it scan for transponders, then for channels.
Both are equally good.

hmmm...toughy...lets see...now the best or the fastest with the best?

personal opinion of the best
Coolsat 5000...fast and accurate..only hiccups on TP's real close to each other (12000,12004,12008,12012 etc)...had a 4000 and that was real good too

In the Top 5

Fortec Classic
Pansat 9200...honestly any Pansat. I've used the 1500,2700,3500,5000,6000 & 9200 and the blind scan has been awesome on all of them. The 1500 I still use to aim dishes. Slow as hell for scanning but it works like a champ
Fortec Ultra (same type of software as the Pansats)
Satworks 3618....again slow but very efficient

middle of the road
Visionsat...it has its hiccups
Satworks 3688...would log all TP's found so 24/7 TP's would be logged each time you blind scanned
Fortec Merc II...sorry but when it cant hit the right symbol rate (some TP's are off by 30) I cant put it in the top 5

worst
Captiveworks CW600 (claimed blind scan but was nonexistant)
Buzz (works for detail but is slow as hell....quick is worthless)

Pansat 9200

I have only had my Pansat 9200 for month and its blind scan is much better and faster than my Fortec Merc II.

The Pansat 9200 has some issues with its new software but the older version 1205 works the best for me now.

lets see

i've had the
coolsat 5000
coolsat 6000
Traxis DBS 3500
coolsat 8000
and a couple of others that don't blind scan

the best so far is the coolsat 5000 ( the 6000 is the same just more memory for things not needed)
the fastest is the traxis but the menu on the coolsat was easier
i would like to try a merc II but haven't yet

Only recievers I've tried were a Pansat 2500, Viewsat Ultra, Visionsat IV200 and I borrowed a friends Captain 7100.

The 2500 is slow like molasis, very very slow but it usally finds everthing.
The Viewsat is faster than the 2500 but slower than the Visionsat or Captain. It usally finds everything except really low SR.
The Visionsat is fast and finds everthing the pansat does so it is my favorite.
The Captain is fast also but seems to be hit or miss on finding everthing. That and I could never get it to control my motor is enough reason for me to never buy one.

I've had almost every receiver mentioned in this thread, and there is no receiver that can touch a Traxis DBS-3500 for speed or accuracy...it is a feed hunters machine. While a Coolie 5000 is a very good blind scanner, it misses a few of the low SR signals that the Traxis has no problem with. The Coolies do have a bit more sensitive tuner though...

I'm still using my Coship 3188C. I don't know how it compares to the newer blind scan receivers.

photoman, I have one of those coships, my first receiver. Hard to beat, except for the locking up on HD feeds problem. Of course, my Traxis does that too, but the Traxis is hard to beat for speed, and finding those low-sr channels.

Visionsat is nice but has problems with the low-SR channels. Also, it would be nice to see what transponders are logged as it finds them...

best is Coship 3188C and my Nokia 9200 with DVB2000 software, the worst in my possession is the Traxis 3500 and I don't get why people think it's the best unless it's the only DVB receiver they've used.

The Traxis 3500 misses a lot of around 2200 or less SR signals and chokes when a mux is full of tons of channels (like some audio ones with 50-75 channels in it. In one of those that come to mind, the traxis only writes about 10-15 channels to memory, leaving tens more channels on the table).

I've only ever owned two receivers, a Coolsat 5000 and a Pansat 3500SD and I'm quite happy with both. They both seem to have a good blind scan. Judging from the other comments they are at the top of a lot of other people's lists. I guess I'm lucky as both I came across not even looking for a FTA receiver.
