ESPN reporting it. Sabres' favorite coach is toast. Talk about going from hero to zero.

wow. If the story about what he did is true then good. The man's a loon. Texas Tech Red Raiders fire Mike Leach - ESPN

Liggett says the letter says Leach is "terminated with cause effective immediately."

Leach was suspended by the university on Monday while the school investigated allegations that he mistreated an injured player.

Receiver Adam James alleges Leach twice confined him to small, dark spaces during practice after the player was diagnosed with a concussion. James is the son of ESPN college football analyst Craig James.

What the hell? Sounds like John Wayne Gacy.
The NCAA could solve this real quick. AS soon as a Player is diagnosed with a concussion he is not allowed to return to practice or have contact with a coach for x many days. Im sure Leech was punishing the kid for being injured. Its just despicable IMO

I think it is alot more than this. I am gonna wait before I put in my 2 cents. This a might be stemming from a disciplining incident. AND I would not be too ready to believe the everything coming from ESPN on this on because that I would not doubt that THE source for this story is Craig James...father of the son in the middle of this.

Am I the only one that thinks there are two sides to every story? If the story is true as portrayed by the James family, then yes, he should be fired. But many things just don't add up.

With the Mangino situation, ex-players came out of the woodwork and volunteered the information that Mangino is an a-hole. Just the opposite has happened with Leach. All the players are supporting him and talking negatively about James.

It's also interesting that Leach was owed $800,000 tomorrow if he was still the coach, and TTech fired him today. Not to mention that many at the university were unhappy last year when Leach was flirting with other jobs.

Something is just fishy.

agreed. i'll wait to do the same for reasons you posted above. but if its true then its well deserved.

This entire situation is so perfectly Texas Tech.

I am now waiting for Gerald Myers to begin leaking stories about Leach one by one to the media. When Leach took over at Tech, there was a Spike Dykes loyalist who wrote for the Lubbock Avalanch-Journal. He wrote a story about how Leach was known for closing down bars in Lubbock. That's stuck with Leach ever sense. My first thought was that Myers would go to him (if he still writes for the A-J). I've thought about it more though, and I think that he'll leak to a national outlet.

This entire thing is really about Leach wanting to talk to other schools at the end of last season. There will be shots fired back and forth between the Leach camp and the James/Myers camp. It will get even less dignified with each round.

Some of the players are now defending James and think that the firing was appropriate

"I have no complaints about this decision. [Leach] put Adam [James] in a shed like an animal. Like an animal in a cage. That was bull," defensive lineman Chris Perry said. "You call other players. I think it was a good decision. We have our pep back now. We practice hard this week. We had less stress this week. You know why? Because he's gone."

Wide receiver Tramain Swindall said he supported the decision to fire Leach.

"I do agree and I'm supporting Adam and what he's doing because it's the right thing to do," Swindall told the AP in a telephone interview.

Swindall said he believes Leach was at times out of line in how he treated players.

"And so do most of the players," he said. "It wasn't just about Adam. It was always a negative vibe."

Said cornerback Taylor Charbonnet: "The players make this team, not one coach. As Adam's friend, I didn't like it at all what [Leach] did. He was my brother and I didn't agree with it. I don't know why [Leach] did that. But I know we are fully behind [interim] coach Ruffin [McNeill]. We love him and support him."

What gets me is Leach is not saying he didnt put James in a room a couple of times. He does not seem to think anything is wrong with that at all, and is saying it is all about money and power.

Who knows. From what I have read and seen though, I think tech made the right choice for now.

I think this ALL about money. NOT enough players are coming out to EITHER sides defense....and like ALL college football teams, there are some that like the coach and some that don't. I PERSONALLY think that Daddy James, being the most vocal and famous of all the dads, did not like the coach. And once he label his son a lazy kid, well that is it...he was going to go out of his way to make sure he was gone. The simple fact that the university does not have to pay him the $800,000 bonus due to a "just cause" firing...is icing on the cake.

The kid is a rich, lazy pansy....plain and simple...and he went home to daddy to bitch and complain he was not getting his way...who just HAPPENS to work for THE most power sports media conglomerate in the world...and dad went out of his way to get what he wanted...someone that will cater to his kid.

..Craig James, being a former college and NFL player...should know better. IF this was not his kid, he would be saying the exact same thing!

Good post Salsa. :up This is the way it looks to me as well. Maybe Leach's lawsuit might reveal some of what really happened. Will be interesting no doubt.

I was in Lubbock today, there are pro and anti Leach T-Shirts and banners all over town...

I am guessing that the "businesses" in the strip had the pro Leach shirts...
;)

Buffalo or Cleveland- Which is the more cursed sports city?

The NFL
