I went to NBC's Web site to watch missed episodes online. I did not "link" to my DISH subscription, because that just told me these shows were not available to me.

That right there just demonstrates the LITERAL insanity of the situation. The network wants you to prove you're paying someone to watch a channel that's broadcast for free! We as a species need to set up a "logic court" to remove people like that from society.

I will say it again, and half will light their hair on fire....Only way to fix it is with the big bad boogieman government!....Yep, they can pass the laws to keep money in our pockets, see either side could do it, one dont even care....
Everyone just loves the free market till you keep getting hosed by it!.....I think it hilarious in a sick and twisted way.....Everything goes up in price and some by percentage go more....Pay TV sure proves that point!....Go Capitalism go! lol

These extortion demands made by ota stations along with all the demands made by sports channels like ESPN have created the high prices you pay now to have cable or satellite tv. Thank God for ota antennas and ota dvrs.

This is one of the reasons I went with Sling tv last July and ota dvr too. The guide issues with DISH also were a reason why I left. They kept getting the channels on the wrong sub channel and a couple of months ago they lost the CBS guide entirely in our area. They simply refuse to fix these errors even when you bring it to their attention.

The other reason I left were the fees that you have to pay to watch DISH tv. Yes, they dropped the price for extra receivers to $5.00 a month from $7.00 but the dvr fee for the hopper is still $15.00 and ridiculous. I pay like $56.00 with some tax = $60.62 to have everything I had with DISH, plus a lot of channels I couldn't get. For my wife and it made sense to cut the cord. I actually don't mind paying this total, because I used to pay this price back in the early 2000 with DISH. Feels like a price flash back to better times.

Maybe others might look into other options and get off the price hike/fee merry go round.

The FCC needs to look into this. They are the only ones that lay down the law on these corporations.

Aren't they the ones who did away with (or greatly expanded) the rules limiting how much ownership a single entity can have?

There is blame to go around....Wasn't the first thing and it goes way back, "must carry"? That was passed in congress?

In the days, every TV and radio station was privately owned and they had network agreements(NBC, ABC,CBS,PBS).
Its so different now that 6 corporations control the mass delivery of TV, and 2 control most of radio.
They broke up ATT in the 80s, now they are even bigger than back then.....Comcast should never had been allowed to buy NBC( previously GE)...

Now we have all the local affiliates held by like 7 smaller corporations that hold us all hostage across the country!

Should something be done? YES....Will something be done? I sure doubt it, looks like this was the plan all along, a handful of people controlling everything you watch and listen to!

But hey look at the great bonuses all the CEOs get off just taking a little more each year, out of our pockets!....Good work if you can get it!

Although cable providers argued that such regulation would impose an undue burden on their flexibility in selecting which services would be most appealing to their customers, the current "must-carry" rules were enacted by the United States Congress in 1992 (via the Cable Television Protection and Competition Act), and the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the rules in rejecting the arguments of the cable industry and programmers in the majority decision authored by Justice Anthony Kennedy. That decision also held that MSOs were functioning as a vertically integrated monopoly.

A side effect of the must-carry rules is that a broadcast station cannot charge a cable television provider license fees for the program content retransmitted on the cable network under the rule.

But note that must-carry is an option of the station and the station may, in lieu of must-carry, negotiate license fees as part of a retransmission consent agreement.

Many years ago during one of the most posted about disputes - AMC - DISH said exactly that. AMC and others wanted big increases yet gives away their content. (It was a multifaceted dispute also Bundling was a big part of the dispute as was reportedly AMC winning a lawsuit over ZOOM)

Probably but they new people in the FCC since then. It's a political thing.

A little surprised to get home and see Nbc 36 in Charlotte was gone... I didn't see any banners or warnings... But this has happened for years now and the only thing that doesn't change is that Dish will have their disputes... Say it is to save the consumer money... But I have yet to see my bill lowered from any of these disputes

The banner and warnings were short and sweet. Only a couple of hours before things shutdown.

Here's what sucks about this situation, and every other one Dish has done over the last 4-5 years. Who is going to reimburse me for the $10.00 I just had to shell out to watch football this evening? That's the cost of Peacock for the next month.

No one. Especially not Dish...who by the way I am also paying for a service not being provided.

Call Dish and tell them, you might get a one time discount. If you don't ask, the answer is no.

Not speaking for AZ here, but one thing the government can do is already within their purview. Mandate that their OTA signals can be received by everyone in their DMA for free with an antenna, whether it be by repeaters or whatever means.
