Does mine qualify?
Hi all,
I hope my setup qualifies for posting.
I didn't want the dish within reach of the grand-kids or lawnmowers, so
after using the solar-outage method, decided on the back of the "Doghouse".
I used about 135" of cables to get into the house. I can see everything from
+139w, all the way to the eastern horizon. I'm at~ 48N-84.5W.
The mount sits at 17' 8" from the base. The top-most braces were added
after finding the dish would sway in the wind. Turnbuckles were perfect for
fine-tuning the plumb. Old bed-frames come in handy, eh? The post is good
and firm now, with lag-bolts holding all the brackets to the garage's framework.
Aside from the new stainless steel fasteners and paint, all the materials either
came with the free 10' dish, or found at the local scrap-yard for cheap.
My only real problem lately, is the worn bushings on the polar axis. When I
get around to fixing it, I may just lower the post by a foot or so, and flip
the actuator to the other side for the more eastern birds. I should be able to
lock onto Telstar 12 by then (15W).
Oh, that handy-dandy digital level was 1/2 price at Canadian Tire last December,
a subtle hint to the wife, and it appeared under the tree on Xmas morning!
This thing is worth it's weight in gold when doing an install!
Cheers, eh?
