Will a 211 HD receiver and an old Dish 500 dish work? I realize it wont be HD but I'm more interested in just getting a picture.

Does the Dish500 have legacy or DishPro lnb's? I believe you need DishPro lnb's for it to work.
And if it works you will get some HD. How much depends on whether you look at 110/119 or 119/129 with it. most HD is on either 110 or 129/61.5.
