I currently have Comcast and a LG LST-4200A HD Set Top box to get HD channels, I Have 2 stand alone tivos and thinking about getting a Dish 942. I have Vonage for a phone line but i might cancel that here shortly.

How dose the Dish DRV software compare to the Tivo?

also should i wait for something new to come out before switching?

Do i need a phone line for dish Service?

thanks

First, welcome to satelliteguys!

I have both the 942 and a Series 2 Tivo. In my opinion the Tivo software is better. It is easier to use and has some better features (Tivo to go, remote scheduling, etc.). That being said, I am VERY impressed with the 942. The ability to record up to 3 HD programs at once (1 OTA and 2 via satellite) and watch up to 2 previously recorded programs all at the same time is great. This machine will handle everything that it takes your 2 Tivos to do and more.

I wouldn't bother waiting for the MPEG 4 HDDVR to come out. From all the news recently it looks like it will be awhile. I would go with the lease deal on the 942.

You are not required to have a phone line for the 942 to work, however, you will be charged an additional $4.95/mth if they are not connected to a phone line.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask!

Do you have to have a HD Package if you have the 942 ?
9.99 seems pointless for ESPN, i doing think i will watch the others.
and i know i can get the locals OTA.

thanks
