Why would four digits be required? Do you really mean that they're going to a CC-ss configuration because they're contemplating 10 or more streams? I'm pretty sure no DTV tuner can handle channels >81 (in AIR mode, obviously).
How is that a downgrade (aside from the obvious abandonment of PQ and AQ)?
After all the going on and on about adding channels, you can't righteously complain about the result now.
Because it is "coming soon" to markets that don't currently have affiliates, I'm going out on a limb and guess that if it happens, it will be a CONUS offering for DISH as opposed to a LIL configuration. I'm betting the broadcasters are not liking this kind of activity (only a half dozen of the 145 affiliates are Scripps O&O).
I don't imagine Bounce has any locally produced content at the affiliate level but I'm pretty sure there's locally inserted ads in their Afro-American focused programming.

So the subchannel numbering starts at 1001. That's asinine.
I still don't understand how it is a "downgrade" other than being a slippery slope (get it -- down grade) into incompatibility with many tuners. I'm going to have to dig into the PSIP guidelines.
Cable systems can renumber channels any way they want. Our local Suddenlink has many such channels. Not a big deal.
My original assumption was that the channel number could be four digits and that's not something my QAM capable TV supports. Now that Mgsports has clarified what he said, it turns out to be something that my TV may not support but it is actually OTA related and the cable TV reference was a red herring.
Mediacom,Comcast KC area have Duplicate channels of local channels in HD same with Digital Sub channels on Mediacom but one shows QAM Channel number that other providers won't show in their Lineup Online. The difference is a Cable provider like CCI on TV's without a Box gets like Music Choice that can be picked same with some National channels past 99. It's up to like Broadcasting groups wanting to add some of those channels that KAJF-LD and KCMN have.
Fortunately for this sub-forum, we don't have to worry about what Mediacom, CCI or Charter are doing.

So the maximum minor channel number is 99 for OTA and 999 for cable TV.ATSC A/65 said:

Cable doesn't want to carry these channels because they might, at first glance, seem to compete with pay TV options. Those with cable typically have established channels as well as OTT options available for much of the same content. There isn't a lot of exclusive content on subchannels.
There is no must-carry for these channels as there's seldom any local programming on them (other than commercials). The return on bandwidth investment just doesn't look very good.
Bounce has picked up the rights to air Scandal starting next Monday. Fairly big acquisition for a diginet with it being such a recent show ‘Scandal’ Rights To Bounce, Will Get Nightly Runs Starting Monday
There's precious little high quality Afro-centric programing to acquire so it makes a lot of sense for Bounce to pounce on Scandal. A lot of the competitive content is from premium channels and streaming services isn't really suitable for OTA broadcast without serious butchering.
It is a shame that it will probably be broadcast mostly on SD subchannels.
