Strong transponder for Hispasat needed

Need some help guys.
Thinking of aiming a fixed dish at Hispasat (don't speak spanish but want to check it out)

With it only at a 10 elevation here I get to have some fun.
actually elevation 9.1, azimuth 108 or so and skew -42

What is the strongest transponder for Hispasat to get it in the vicintiy first?

There are plenty of Good TP's on Hispasat , try these 2 , you should get a strong signal. Good Luck

I wouldn't mind aiming a fixed one there either if I had room. Problem is we don't have much of a yard, so that's an issue. However, wife has said that if we get a much bigger yard down the road if/when we buy a new house I'm pre-approved to have no major hassles from her when I install a cband sized dish!

Ice, you'll love Supershow! If I remember correctly, they change the 3 movies they play in eternal cycles on Wednesday Nights and Sunday Nights.

Mike Kohl's site (www.global-cm.net) shows that TP (Supershow) is very weak in the Northern states so we'll see how it works

hey ice, i'm here in indiana, and most of the transponders on that sat have a Q reading of 90-94 except the supershow transponder. it has a Q reading of about 69-70, but still comes in great. good luck!

I can vouch for that , almost as weak as the NBC MUX that was on SBS 6 ( is that even there anymore. )

The Cuba Mux is the best , they now have 7 TV channels and just as many Radio , it's the most English friendly because most of their U.S. originating programming like NYPD and CSI or Nightly movies shown are kept in original English language just with subtitles in Spanish , Hotel Rwanda was on last week , and they had a Documentary on 2 nights ago that was on the shelf at my local Blockbuster.
I also like this MUX because it's commercial free and unedited.

well ran into an issue right away....its 18 out with wind chill of +2. But I did go out with the StarChoice dish (the only dish I have that will go down to 10 degrees) and the bottom of the dish hits the mast once I get that far over

So I'm going to have to try the old ghetto motor technique by putting the mast at 45 degrees (my latitude) and the dish at 23 and doing it that way.

GOT IT!!

Whew took some fun. Tried to put the mast at 45 degrees and the dish at 23 but couldnt get my TS of 93W locked in.....and its getting really cold out

So I spun the mast around and went as far as I could, but the mast is off by 8-10 degrees. Oh well, lets try it. Put the elevation on the SC dish down to below 10 and spun near the area. Had a strong TP (arab stuff) and away we went

PING...30...adjusted elevation and boom 60
Scanned in all the channels. Some using a blind scan but some I had to manually log in. Here are the numbers from the Pansat 1500 (30 or so is threshold)

Whats really weird is almost all TP's are 60 except for the couple weak ones.

This is going to by my first project this year. I have an extra Primestar dish, do you think that will work Tony? Sounds like I will have to have it pointed real low.
I am going to try it with my bucket mount first, and if it works, I will put a post in for it. Can't wait, but like you, it is in the teens with wind chill around 0, and VERY windy!

it should work. For your area its a 12 elevation and skew -44. I was able to do it with a 9 elevation (just need a good LOS).

no crap. I was out there tonite trying to get it working. Kept coming in because my hands were froze. I'll have to fix the skew a smidge tomorrow sicne the mast is off by 10 degrees

good job ice...knew you could do it! my 39" dish is on a 5' pole with my true south at 86w. turning the motor to 30w makes it kinda look like it's gonna fall off! but hey...it works! glad you got it, now stay warm and enjoy!

It's below the horizon by 7º for me.
And I did so wanna watch some Fidel-O-vision, too.

The 40ºW bird is right about at my horizon to the east.
It would sure be nice if someone besides Lyngsat listed what's on those birds below 60º
The lucky buggers in Florida and all along the east coast, have some prime sky-viewing out there.

The great thing about pointing an offset dish at a far east satellite (for me it is 12.5W) is that the dish looks like it is pointed into the ground and therefore can't accumulate snow ..... except on the back of the dish .... which I suppose means it eventually falls over .... but it should help with rain fade with no droplets accumulating on the front of the dish ....
