Strong rumors TV 2 soon to be unlocked on 922

Fair thought. However, even major broadcast net shows have changed networks. Just as an example, Medium, (didn't Scrubs change nets?) and a few others have. Also, major net shows, such as The Apprentice, premiere on the NBC TV Network, but the premier episode is replayed on a channel that NBC owns, such as Bravo or MSNBC, so using a DishPass provide protection if a show is not recorded due to priority.

However, it really is to each his own. We DishPasser prefer to get FULL VALUE for our monthly bill and do have a rich knowledge and appreciation for a number of musicians and other performers reflecting wide variety of interests and entertainment. But if one just wants to record Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, and a few other shows, and has no interest beyond that, then DishPass could certainly be useless to that person. I'm sure a lot of non-power users find it useless as would a lot of senior citizens because often those folks just want to record only a very few shows and it would not be right to force people to use DishPass if they don't want to. But, the result is, people are missing out, but if one doesn't know what they have missed, then no "doooh!" moments about having missed something.

Oh Jesus... seriously? I think that's a bit of a stretch.

I for one don't use DishPass because I don't want my reciever filling up with programming that I have no intention of watching. Same reason why I never found Tivo's thumbs up/down feature appealing. (But to each his own, there are people that I'm sure swear by it too.) I want my receiver to record the shows I want and that's it. And just because I'm really into TV and movies, there's hardly ever an occasion when I don't know that a show I want to see is starting and where to find it. If I really thought about it, maybe there's something I could use a DishPass for but in the many years I had a 622, a situation has never come up. Does it mean that I feel that I'm not getting my $6 (and now $10 as MikeD just CAN'T help himself from pointing out to everyone every single day) worth? Nope. I have plenty to watch now, and stuff saved to a EHD to keep for later.

Sorry it bothers you Dusto, about pointing out the sling $10.00 fee ,but I do NOT feel like I am getting my money's worth with this 922 since I don't really sling anything. I bought the 922 because of all the hub bub about slinging hd to another hd tv in your house using tv2, and now that is not likely to happen. I feel like I got taken in one big bait and switch tactic about all the info that was put out at CES last year.

DISH has really been coming out with some fees lately. They rolled all the older made up fees like Tv 2 connection fee and the dvr fee and the additional receiver fee and put them in one big additional receiver fee: $17.00. Now they are adding new fees like the $4.00 google fee , and of course the $10.00 sling /dvr fee with the 922. If the 922 was more rock solid with less problems, like missed recordings , the tv 2 user stopped bug, and it did what it was advertised to do, I would be more than happy to pay this $10.00 fee. But I doubt this will ever happen now, so as I pointed out in an earlier post, I will most likely swap this 922 back out for a new 722k instead . Then I can add the google integration fee and actually get something out of the new google box + the 722k. Then I won't mind paying the $10.00 dvr/google fee. I will actually get my money's worth.

RUMOR ALERT - Looks like this software is being released on Thursday. It will be S110.

Of course this release could always be delayed pending any issues at the uplink or issues that crop up in final beta testing.

Will this allow independent tv 2 like the 722k series dvrs Scott? If so how does this work if someone is trying to sling something online? Does it effect the person on tv 2 and what they are watching?

A app for windows would be nice or allow us to use the sling app.

You can already watch sling in HD on windows. Going through dish.sling.com you can watch your 922 in HD via local LAN or you can remotely too if your internet connection is fast enough on the uplink.

They are still working on a solution for streaming that uses Flash and not the proprietary plugin that only supports Firefox and IE. I think the iPad app that uses H.264 is a step in that direction. I got the impression that apps prior have been using another codec. Once that solution is rolled out, any device that has Flash should work with the site.

Please Lord, no Flash. It is one of the worst security-hole-laden pieces of junk ever. I guess they won't just use a standard method due to DRM nonsense or channels will flip out that someone might be able to "steal" the stream... as if every program ever weren't already available on torrent sites. Talk about closing the door after the horse left the barn...

For that matter, I should be able to copy recorded shows to my hard drive then hook that up to my computer and watch the programs. I love how "digital rights management" is about crippling digital systems to make them work more like old analog ones.

I am thoroughly disgusted with the Vip922's "Near HD" crap. The Sling produces only better sound than mono that was available on 722. The HD image is clipped on both sides and has (according to my screen data) a 4:3 format which looks rediculous when stretched to fill the screen. To make matters worse the image is overscanned so image loss is compounded. It's damned discouraging when the ads for the Sling Pro-HD:

I'm really PISSED that Dish gives you the 4:3 shaft with this $200 upgrade box. I sincerely hope that they provide the upgrade software or firmware at no cost soon. I'll be buying a Sling Pro-HD and wiring up my own sling and aborting the P.O.S. inside the 922.

If anyone at DISH is listening... get ready for a class action suit, or fix it.

Flash is pretty much standard on all browsers (except on Apple's iPad/iPhone) because it's already on most computers and is extremely easy to install. And it works just fine, especially on computers that can take advantage of hardware acceleration. But you're right in that it's because of the needed in the eyes of the content makers DRM layer. HTML5 would be better because it's an industry standard, but for whatever reason there's no DRM. It could be worse. We could be stuck with the plug-in or something with less device support like Silverlight.

Funny, I have always got my updates in the early morning before I woke up and they were working on my receive by 6:00am. So if they do an update this evening ,then it should hit by tomorrow morning then, because my receiver will be recording shows this evening and won't go off till 11:00pm tonight.

That's probably because the updates were pushed the night before and the default time for the receiver update software and program data is around 3 or 4 AM. So when they say the software will be pushed Thursday, they mean Thursday night.
