Strange message on my DSR922

Hello all,

I have recently begun getting a message on any Videocipher channels (such as G5-5, CNN) which says "TvPass Card Required. Please install your newest TvPass Card. If you have already installed the Card, press HELP". There is no "HELP" button on my system, and I have no idea what they mean by a "TvPass Card". My manual doesn't reference such an animal anywhere. Any ideas, comments, flames, etc.? Thanks in advance. Steve
 
I think it may mean your Videocipher unit is bad. If you look on the back of your DSR922 you'll see a slot about the size of a credit card. It was designed so if the Videocipher decoder technology was compromised they could issue a TVPass card that would be inserted into the slot which would re-enable the decoder. Videocipher is virtually useless now that analog is going away.
 
Do you sub to any of the analog channels? If not, I wouldn't worry about it.
If you do, I read where NPS is negotiating contracts and locations for it to go 4DTV soon.

My Uniden Ultra still has a VC module in it even though it's no longer subbed to analog. I use that receiver to move my dish. Since AMC21 and G14 are in the same position, I frequently see the analog side to get there. As of the other day, I only saw the no subscription screen.
