I am still under a 2 year contract (signed up in Feb of 2008). I am paying about $41 per month right now (including HD-DVR, locals and the $29.99 programming DishHD). I heard rumors about price increases. Am I subjected to that? Is there anything I can do to get out of the price increase? Can I cancel the contract?
Still under 2 yr contract - can Dish raise $$ on me?

Dish's contracts do not lock you into a particular price. If you look in the fine print it specifically states that programming pricing and selection can change at any time without notice. Yes you are subject to any price increases that may occur, they typically occur in February. You can always try and call in should a price increase affect you to see if you can bargain with Dish but really they don't have to bargain with you at all.
Under the terms of the contract is you agreed to have the service for two years and Dish will charge you the cancellation fee if you are still under contract. Price increases do not have any effect on the terms of the contract. You may be able to get some free deal, but your price will still increase.
How many times has this question been asked? You agree to a minimum package for the term of the contract but rarely is a price gauranteed. Yes in the past DISH has gauranteed a price usually AT 100 but your contract specifies the terms and none recently has fixed the subscription prices.

That's life?? Where else are you subject to rate increases after you commit to a contract? Cell phones? nope. DSL? nope. Even cable won't raise your rates when under a time commitment.
The price increase happened to me after 3 months with E. I called and complained and they gave me a recurring credit.
I have seen what you are talking about, but Dish's commitment deals with the length of time for the commitment, it does not give you any commitment to what the price is and it never has. Each company is free to offer their contract any way they wish and Dish wish's are only for the length of time.
There have been several price locks with dish in the past. The most recent I know of was the DVR Advantage that locked the price until this coming Feb.
Being under contract is like being married, Dish (your partner) gets to screw you all of the time.

If contract clause is not specific with price raise i.e. "x party reserve right to raise party..." that gives them right to raise price BUT CANNOT FORCE you to accept. If you cancel with 30 days (varies by states)

Just curious what the effect would be if DISH dropped some of the locals and did not get them quickly renewed. They can't provide you a substitute for a local network station since they can't provide DNS, so , would that open the contract where one could cancel without penalty since it would solely be the fault of Dish that they could not furnish what the original agreement was based upon? It's not like the station went out of business, just Charlie chose not to pay the "x" amount per year.
Nothing would happen, all programming is subject to change according to the contract provisions. No, this wouldn't allow you to break the contract without incurring whatever penalty you would get dinged for, usually remaining number of months left in contract times ten dollars, I think. There's nothing in the contract that says Dish, or any provider, has to provide you with locals, espn, tbs, etc. However, from a practical standpoint Dish doesn't wanna give their subs a reason to switch to Direct, cable, etc; because of course this costs them in the long run. You could complain to Charlie and your local station, I sure would

We all agreed to the fact that Dish can increase prices, and change programming at any timer with no recourse, when we signed our contracts. And if you think you've got a defense by saying it was too much trouble for you to read, you're just gonna give a judge a good laugh. Or, more likely, make him sigh.
