I have a DirecTV World Direct dish (like this one: www.ebay.com/itm/like/180969160011?lpid=82)
I bought a special LNBF for it (this exact one: www.satpro.tv/Orbital-Dual-LNB.aspx)

And I still can't seem to pick up Galaxy 19.
First I got something that had only the Pentagon Channel and Russia Today -- Quite boring.
Then I got something that had a ton of local channels (cbs, abc, etc) I suspect it belonged to Dish Network, but they were all encrypted.
Then I got something that had only one radio station, but it had no sound. -- Also boring.

I'm not sure if 97 is between these, above them, or what? I'm pretty sure I'm pointing my dish in the right direction.
I tried with a CaptiveWorks 700 and an Ilink 9000 Plus. The Ilink seemed to have a better search feature, so I'm sticking with it.
CaptiveWorks just says I've found an "Unknown Satellite"... Which seems about right.

Any suggestions? Do I have the right equipment?

All the satellites are 'unknown' to the receivers. You have to tell them what satellite you've aimed them at.
Is the pole the dish is mounted to perfectly vertical? Makes the numbers that www.dishpointer.com generates more accurate.
Did you mark the mount/pole relationship when you found Pentagon channel? That's on 101W.
As to 97W being higher or lower that depends on your location.(?) 97w is east of 101w
Set the tune up screen to an active transponder on the satellite you want to get.
Set elevation to that dishpointer generates.
Start with dish slightly to one side of the line dishpointer generates.
Move towards the line(and past), watching for Quality reading, in small steps. Wait approx 10 seconds for the receiver to lock the signal between each step. If Q is not seen, raise or lower the dish 1/2 degree and repeat.

That LNBF is a universal. In ant setup did you select the universal option with 22khz ON?

The alternative is to set the LNB to standard, 10600 and 22khz ON.

If you are maxed on Pentagon, mark vertical thin line on mast and dish's bracket, then turn the dish more South, so the distance between the lines, now separated, will be about 2 mm. This will give you direction to 97 W. But you need - probably - also adjust elevation - this depends on your location. What state are you in?
