It is being reported that Teofilo Stevenson, from Cuba has passed away at the age of 60. He was a heck of an Olympic boxer who I disliked immensely. However, it reminds me of how great Olympic boxing used to be. I hope he found peace.

One helluva fighter who could have been a dominant pro. R.I.P.

I remember hating him, and hoping they would find a way for him to fight some of the very good heavyweights of the 70's, like Foreman, Norton, Holmes and Ali. he might have been the best of them all.

R.I.P.

One of greatest heavyweights to NEVER win a world title. But he was too wrapped up in his dying love for "la Revolución" in Cuba. He was the face of Fidel's "sports machine" in the 60s, 70s and early 80s. "Pirolo", his nick name in Cuba..love the attention of the Cuban public...and for that, in 74' Sports Illustrated ran a story about him with the title, "I rather be RED than Rich".

Que descanses en paz....

In "fairness" to Stevenson and any other Cuban national sports hero, he can either publicly support the regime and live a good life, or reject it and subject not only himself, but also hs family, to retribution.

I always liked his Elvis Presley sneer.

Correct. He was not dumb. Whether is was a true member of "la Revolución", few really know. I know he was a great boxer.

A great Olympic champion. Too often we get caught up with those athletes and their pursuit for multiple medals in a single Olympics (ie swimmers, gymnasts, and track stars) that we tend to ignore the great ones who can only win one and then have to maintain that standard of excellence for another four years and, in his case, another four after that. RIP Teofilo.
