Out here somewhere
The wife and I are looking to maybe buy a camper that is permanently setup on a lake in upstate NY (about 70 miles from home). Currently I have dish at home with a 622 and a 211K. Dishes pointed to 110/119 & 61.5. AEP package. For the most part it would be every couple weeks in summer and maybe a couple of full weeks.
The campground allows a sat dish. Problem is that I cannot put up two as I have now. Was thinking of just one dish pointed at 61.5. However, I don't know if you can do that or not as I believe guide data, etc. is on 110/119. Would DirecTV be a better option if there was a one dish scenario (have no idea personally). Also really don't want to pay for two services as Dish gets too much of my money now .
Is Dish flexible in doing anything for current customers in the above scenario? Anybody in the same situation that can give me some advice?
Cable or OTA are not an option in the area.
Thanks in Advance, Gerry

You just need one dish, a 1000.4, pointed at 72.7, 77, and 61.5, or a 1000.2, pointed at 110, 119, and 129. E* does have a 2nd home exception for adding another home to an account to transfer service back and forth. I don't know if this would qualify or not. You may just have to pole mount or tripod another dish yourself and take a receiver with you. Technically you're not supposed to do it but people do. You may be able to do the RV thing but I think you have to have a separate receiver dedicated to it but I'm not sure. There are others here with RVs that can help with that.

Thanks

Laddyboy, thanks for the info so far. Didn't think about sats at 72.7/77. Can't hit 129 here in upstate NY as far as I know. Was thinking about taking receiver with me tho..

Personally, If you currently have a free dishmover available, I would recommend setting up a dish mover for the next time you plan to go out there, and bring your receivers along. Note that at some point you will have to change your physical address back to your main house, and getting the remote system serviced can sometimes be difficult. If you go this route, and the location is difficult to find, ensure that you have a valid cell phone number on your account in case the tech has difficulty find it. Best of luck to you!

Dish allows you to take one dual tuner receiver with you in the RV. You could take your 622 and use a 1000.4 dish as long as you have the new smart card installed in the receiver. The other dish option would be a dish 500 pointed at 110 and 119. You wouldn't get HD with that option but sometimes you just have to ruff it when you're camping. :)

You can pick up used dish's on ebay and here's a mount that makes alignment easier Bullseye Portable Dish Mount - L.W. Blenis Designs If you go with the dish 500 option make sure you get a dish with a Dish Pro Plus dual lnb. I would recomend spending a few dollars on a satellite meter for aligning the dish and a bottle of good Kentucky burbon for taking the edge off during the alignment process.

Good luck

Bross, thanks for the info. I personally could get by with a 500 pointed at 110/119 but that won't hack it with the wife:D. Both my receivers have the new smart cards. But couldn't I just take my 211k with us instead of the 622? Or I could buy another 211k and added it to account and leave it up there during summer?
Thanks for the link to bullseye.
I will have to check the location of the 3 sats for the 1000.4 before we go up to look at the place this coming saturday.. Gerry

Yes if you only have one TV in the RV you could use the 211 and yes you can get another receiver and leave it there.

I have the same setup as you at home with 110, 119 and 61.5. In the RV I have two SD TV's and use a dish 500 pointed at 110/119 and a 625 receiver. I added a third receiver to my account to eliminate the hassle of taking the receiver with me. I think it's $5.00 per month for the additional SD dual receiver.

I travel with my RV and therefore I'm constantly re-aiming the dish. If you plan on doing that get a clinometer for checking the actual line of sight to the satellite. It takes all the guess work out of line of sight issues. The one I use is here Suunto - Suunto Tandem Story - SUUNTO TANDEM - Precision Instruments

bross, this 5th wheeler is permanently setup and will not be going on the road. It would be tough to drag along the 10x30' deck;) and with my Fusion to boot!
I just found some info at sadoun on the 1000.4 and the install manual etc is there. I thought that was nice as now I know what the elevation/azmuith/skew is for where the camper is.
I trust that my currently authorized receivers will work with those sats w/o having to make any calls? As mentioned they both have the new cards in them. I do think picking up another 211K would be the ideal way in the long run (one tv). My current 211K has an EHD hanging off it.

You shouldn't have to make any calls, but you will have to run check switch to switch between dish types at home and at the RV.

Check Switch..

According to what I read in the 1000.4 installation manual you need to run check switch on the receiver with no cables hooked to it prior to switching it between different sat setups. This clears the check switch matrix and then you rerun it with the cable hooked to it (home or RV) after rehooking cable. Another 211K is looking better and better:up.
Thanks for all your info, Gerry

PS: One more quickee- are all the channels that are on 110/119 currently available on 72.5/77 ???

Yes, the only differences are locals channels, regional sports networks, and public interest channels.

Since when??? I was always old that this was a big no no.
