Statement from DISH - Not Getting the New HD?

I cancelled the upgrade last night w/Dish.I'm going to do it myself & save some money. They wanted $95.00 & I don't know what I would get.(a realignment, upgrade, more aggravation) I'll pick up a 1000.4 on the internet, wait for the 6" snow to get off the roof & the weather to get little warmer then go to work on it.

I just called

I just called as I am not getting ANY of the new channels.. I have 2 dishes on my roof and when you tune two the last 2 channels on the DVR is says I have diash 500 and the other channel says 61.5

after being on hold for 15 minutes and having the rep make me try different channels, they said ALL I need is to have my dish repointed. They took a $15 payment and said someone would be out on Saturday. Is this ALL they have to do? I asked her if that would mess up any of my channels when they repoint? they said no.. is this the case or did I need a NEW (different) dish installed??

Can someone please let me know before saturday so I can call them back if I need to let them know something. I think it is 2 dish 500's I have on the roof... I am in Southern NJ (Clementon) if that helps....

Assuming you were set up similar to me, with 2 dishes pointing a 119/110/61.5 and no international channels (...not sure which bird your locals are on), with VIP (HD) receiver, I'd assume they'd be looking at upgrading you to the Eastern Arc.

My first appointment was cancelled and rescheduled without me knowing it. After waiting around for them to show up on Monday (President's Day) they never showed up. They said the automated system rescheduled me for Tuesday, but I couldn't make it Tuesday so I rescheduled for today, Wednesday. The tech arrived as scheduled, said that he couldn't get up on the roof with the snow on it and we rescheduled for next Wednesday. He said that he would be putting up an eastern arc dish and that they don't do 129 here on L.I. I purchased a new 612 to replace my 625 and see what happens next week.

I think that is the case... I think they had to put two dish 500's on my roof, one farther back then the other because of the trees. do you think I will have any issues with them repointing my dish? I also just read a post where the guy came out and said he couldnt get on the roof because of snow.. it snowed here LAST week. I dont know how clear the roof needs to be for him to go up :) I just hope he doesnt come at 5PM (my appointment is scheduled form 12-5 on Sat) and tell me he cant go on the roof...

Looks like some of my HD local channels are on 61.5 I would have to look at each channel to see what satellite it is coming from unless you know a site that would tell me... I get philly locals ...

Apparently I made a big stink between the 30 or so dish network phone reps the past week, that they pulled my work order this morning from the subcontractor and they, themselves will be showing up! I do not know if I should be happy or confused at this point.

I live in Delaware, and when I contacted dish via the online chat, they said they would have to move us to the 77, 72, and 61.5 "Eastern Arc", which would require replacing our aging 510 with a 612, is this correct? I'm a bit lost as i've never heard of 77 and 72. Plus, i'm unhappy that they're quoting me $115 to get something i'm already paying for!

Thanks!

If you add the dish home protection insurance plan for $6.00, it would only cost you $15.00 for the upgrade to eastern arc dish 1000.4 for 77/72.7/61.5 sats. IF you don't want to go with a 612 , which will cost you an additional 10.00 a month if it is an additional receiver, you could got with a 211k and add your own external hard drive . Turns it into an hd version of your 510 dvr, except you can record two things at a time; 1 ota /1 sat. You would have to pay DISH the $39.99 to enable the software to turn it into a dvr, but no dvr fees on this receiver. If it is an additional receiver it would only cost you $7.00 a month. Eventually all of the western arc for 110/119/129 will be upgraded to mpeg 4 and when they do , the 510 dvr will not work any longer. DISH is trying to upgrade you to eastern arc because you are in that area for locals. Most likely off of 61.5 sat.

Currently we have a VIP722 downstairs, and a 510 upstairs (Tho the DVR part of it is never used) and I believe we do get Locals off 61.5. When did they add this eastern arc? I've never heard of it, only of the 110, 119, 129, and 61.5's. What angers me though is we paid over $200 for the HD upgrade less than two years ago, and even though we already subscribe to the DHPP, the guy said "That doesn't apply here".

Service tech was here yesterday. Put up on eastern arc. Got all the new HD channels but lost 3 locals. Locals come off of 119 - cannot get locals in HD because I am out of the spot beam. Still have NBC, CBS, ABC & FOX - lost CW, PBS and another local. Every time I switched to one of the locals I lost - searches satellite - starts at 119 then right away switches to 61.5. Tech thinks it has to do with the new eastern arc dish not working right in this area. When snow is off roof he is going to take the eastern off and put a 500 back on and add another 500 beside it to see if that will work. That will be 3 500 dishes at my house!! Hopefully it will work!!!

Eastern arc was started a couple of years ago in 2008. ALL programing off of these satellites( 77/72.7/61.5) are in mpeg 4 , regardless if Hd or Sd. This is to provide multiple line of sights for the installer to give you DISH sat service. IF you can't get the traditional western arc sats (110/119/129) due to trees , buildings etc, you might be able to see eastern arc .

Also, this is the first step in transitioning all subs to mpeg 4. Mpeg 4 is much more bandwith efficient . You can put 20 sd channels on one transponder and upto 8 hd channels on one trasponder without any pq problems. This will allow more hd and hd locals to be added using mpeg 4.

The transition to mpeg 4 is inevitable. DISH will sooner or later upgrade all the older mpeg 2 receivers to mpeg 4 ones. You might as well upgrade and get the DISH and a new hd mpeg 4 receiver so you won' t have to worry about it any longer. But I wouldn't pay more than $15.00 to do the sat dish upgrade.

Most everyone that is reporting on these sat dish upgrades is only paying $15.00 with the dish home insurance. After a couple of months you should be able to cancel the insurance without the $25.00 downgrade charge. You just can't cancel the first month without the penalty.

Dishnetwork tech was here, he wouldn't swap out my dish500 with a 1000.2 because his boss told him that 61.5 and 129 feeds were not compatible. I've had it with this company. EVeryone has their own "story" and no one knows the company's technology! Plus, they were three hours late, let alone the 4th day waiting for them!

(04-03rf) Debbie E. 3KK: You are eligible to receive the HD channels

Dan Harris: what charge is it to me?
(04-03rf) Debbie E. 3KK: No
Dan Harris: no charge at all?
(04-03rf) Debbie E. 3KK: No
Dan Harris: excellent, do you know what the new dish setup is going to be? 110/119/129?
(04-03rf) Debbie E. 3KK: Yes

I do not have DHPP and they are installing a western arc dish for free, so I wonder why some are being charged for a new dish and others are not?

The problem is they're trying to force us to switch to the eastern arc, and therefore forcing us to upgrade our 510 to a 612 (The 722 is fine of course), just so they can give us programming we already pay for. They should just give us 129, and we'll worry about the mpeg4 when the time comes.

This is horrible. Same experience here - they want to replace the dish and charge me for the privilege of getting the channels I am already paying for. This is the last straw I guess... Time to switch regardless of how good alternatives are - ready to do it on principle! Its amazing how customer service had degraded with dish.

I chalk it up to CSR Roulette or in your case Csr Lottery. You got it for FREE!
