State of 4k programming

I have a 3D tv, and am looking to replace it with a larger 4K set. Talked the ole lady into it by buying the Labyrinth(she has a strange Bowie fetish that is unreal and cult-esque) on 4K only. She is now helping me look at the Vizio P-series, although I am open to suggestions on a high quality, decent price 4K TV.

How many 3-D sets are in homes and how much 3-D programming is now available?
A couple of things to consider here. Most complaints with 3D included having to wear uncomfortable glasses, off axis viewing, gave some people headaches, and some people just didn't like the way it looked. Everybody prefers the way 4K looks, by 2018 it's unlikely you'll be able to find a TV bigger than 50" that's not 4K. Thus you have an automatic market for 4K programming. Smart marketing equals bigger profits, hence directv being first to offer 4K channels. The first channel to offer prime time 4K programming will have more consumers watching their commercials. That's exactly what propelled HD.

Each year since 2007 there have been hundreds of movies in 3D ( see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_3D_films ) , In 2016 there were 52 major 3D movie releases. This trend will continue into 2017. 4k 3D TVs are amazing in their PQ. I would subscribe to a Premium Channel 3D / 4K 3D channel. There is now enough movies in 3D to justify such a channel. There is also SW such as https://www.winxdvd.com/windows-10/free-download-3d-videos.htm. You can download 3d to your pc and write on DVDs to play on a 3D Blu-Ray player. There are thousands of You Tube 3d clips to try. So those of us who bought 3D TVS or are thinking about 4K 3D TVs will have much to watch.

Released vs sales is two different things... Also, how many times is a 3D movie released by itself vs bundled with the non-3D version?

Lol. Worse. It was cake porn. He'd find random girls, give them $500 and they would go to a grocery store and open up cakes and rub it all over them. And then they would buy a bunch of cake supplies, go into some back area somewhere, I forget where he said, but they would do random stuff with the cake products that cannot be hygienic. It just proved that women will do anything for $500.

Hmmm, UHD, or is that SUHD, HDR? The question should be, when does Dish plan to offer highly compressed 4k?

If that was the case, you'd think women would rule the mechanics garage world.

Yeah, I know a place that'll fix all of that for less than $500. :D

LG 65UH8500 is my suggestion. 4K and 3D.

65" is too big, but I am not opposed to the price on the 55". By the way, 75", in my opinion, is too small, but my lady says no. Lol. She is ok with the thought of a 55" in the bedroom. We currently have a 47" LG 3D in there.

i have a vizio class M which the newer vizio UHD tvs have chomecast built in which alot of people who want might want that

So once again we see 3 D come and go. It came out big time in the 50s , then returned in the 80s and recently came back in the 2000s and now it will go away to come again in the 2020s most likely.

LG was the last 3D television maker. Their 2017 lines will NOT have 3D.

Sammy, Vizio, Sony. They have all dropped it.
Scott Wilkerson reported from CES2017 that there were no new sets being sold with 3D. 3D is not part of the 4K Blu-ray standards. I guess I dodged a bullet on that one...

I wonder if 3D movies on Blu-ray will be like my Laserdisc movies before the turn of the Century, an oddity that I hold on to just to prove how much of a bleeding-edge geek I am?

Who knows...if they ever find a way to make it work w/o wearing glasses, it might actually stick around! :D

I actually got an LG OLED 2016 that supports 3D for Christmas. Love the TV! I was hoping LG would have kept it going as a differentiating factor from the other makers. In the race however for "better" specs, LG dropped it I am thinking. Mind you, Sony and Panasonic have released OLED at CES. Guess who makes their panels ... LG.

It has been said that if Avatar 2 came out ... it may have given some more life to 3D ... but it is still no where to be seen.

Unfortunately, the Panasonic OLED is not intended for the US Consumer Market. The next move in the OLED market with be the marrying of Quantum Dots with the white OLEDs to eliminate the color filters currently in use. Next year...
