Starz & Encore?

Nothing big people. Liberty rebranded Encore to Starz Encore. It's a stupid change in my opinion, but they are trying to sell Starz, Encore, and Movieplex. Rumors are that CBS might be interested in buying them, which will make them partners with Showtime. Basically, Starz to Showtime will be the equivalent of Cinemax to HBO. What that will mean for Encore, Movieplex, The Movie Channel, and Flix is yet to be seen. After all it's all hypothetical for now.

But he specified Encore, so only 2 more. I knew about Encore Action, didn't know which other one. Thanks for the info.

Regardless, even though the live channels may be in SD on a number of them, most of the shows are available via VOD in HD.

That really is the meaning behind what the changes are. They have been trying to sell for awhile now. Showtime (CBS) is interested but apparently not at the asking price. Starz allowed itself to be not a pure premium channel as witnessed by my being able to get much of their content without subscribing or paying extra to it specifically. And they were free for a year on DISH to everyone, they were not happy about it but their contract allowed for it. That would never happen with HBO.
They actually have more subscribers (or about the same depending on the source) as Showtime but that is deceiving. They count and always have those who get their channels as part of other packages.

There's only another 2 I think, that are available in HD at all.

Starz Encore Black
Starz Encore Action

Starz Encore Classic & Suspense also have been available in HD for some time.
AT&T U-verse, BHN, Charter, CenturyLink PRISM & Google, as well as some TWC systems, carry ALL of the currently available S/E HD feeds.

You also forgot Movieplex, which also has been in HD & is also carried by the same providers above.

Honestly if it wasn't for the fact there are several channels in AT250 I DO watch, I would have already downgraded to AT200...because I sure as hell don't keep it so I can get all those SD-ONLY Encore channels.

FWIW the new Starz Encore logos all look alike and so it makes it hard to tell the difference. I use LOGOS for channel ID far more than Channel number. I prefer the logos HBO and Showtime have for their various channels because there is enough uniqueness in each logo that I can easily tell which channels is which.

Maybe they could lower the cost of Encore in half to $3. :) How much is Starz (with the Encores in it) going for with the other providers? Is it still around $13? I know Starz is at a special price of $10 with Dish. However, to get both with Dish, it would be $16 a month currently. I appreciate getting one of each with the Movie Pack, but I do not do the streaming as much. However, I am sure some would not mind adding them standalone, too. I would possibly add Encore standalone if it were lower like in half.

1) If you're in AT250 you don't need the encore standalone pack. Just an FYI in case you didn't know.

2) You can get both for $8/month for 6 months and then on the first day back at full price attempt to remove them online and the popup will come back offering it half off again.

1) Yes, I am very aware. We started out with AT250 actually for the Encores and the west feeds of The Movie Channels along with Boomerang and some other channels. However, now we are in the Welcome Pack.

2) I am not always a fan of doing that. However, we do have the Dish Movie Pack which gives us access to the on demand apps of Starz and Encore since Starz Kids and Family and Encore Suspense are included in that add-on pack.

I don't really care for the new look, I know Starz is in the middle of trying to rebrand themselves...again. By the way, 2016 is the last year Starz will have first-run rights to Disney before those rights turn over to Netflix. Supposedly, Starz will use the savings from ending that contract to invest in new original programming. Whether that new programming will be any good remains to be seen.

Their recently history (since the Premiere of Black Sails) has been stellar regardless if you're a fan of the shows or not. Believe they've only had two busts which have been very obvious (the two shows that were placed on Sunday's AND whole season placed online after the premiere). But that's probably something to do with the production direction going in a way the network wasn't a fan of.

while watching encore via encore pack after i finish watching the movie it shows previews from starz encore.
they are actually showing movies from the year 2018 on encore channels.

the encore pack is really good.
i subscribed in past to the starz pack, but i like encore pack. i actually like the movies on encore pack.
they have lots of good stuff on starz pack, just to much stuff to watch. lol and being i have welcome pack and heartland pack too i find its to much to watch.

but i would find myself paying for the starz pack and watching it maybe once or twice for the month and end up going right to encore pack.
hmm encore = great movies and it has shown very good movies too, many from 2018 and surprisingly enough it rules.
I am never disappointed in this cheap movie pack.

I say they should remove the Encore movie pack out of the top 250 pack and roll the remaining cable channels into top 200. Encore should be ala cart or bundled with Starz for a cheaper price. Most of the price of top 250 is for the Encore channels that sell for $6.00 by themselves anyway.

I like having Encore in AT250. Otherwise, I would have to pay extra for it, plus I have free streaming service. TMC in SD is also included. With so many channels going away, I think Dish should keep AT250 the way it is with the extra movie channels. BBC World would be nice to be added though.

A little birdy told me that Starz and Encore are no longer part of the 3 free months of premiums that new customers get. The same thing happened with HBO/MAX a few months before they were pulled. :(

That would be an interesting thread.

I doubt Dish would be dumb enough to get into a pissing match with 3 premium channels at the same time.

Honestly besides a few original series on HBO, they all show the same movies eventually.

But what is Starz currently doing for OTT providers such as streaming?

I was reading about all the disputes (Dish) lately and they seem to be out of frustration for their continued subscriber loss. Don’t believe me, go read some of the comments made by Charlie recently.

Almost every dispute lately has been with a provider such as a local channel that provides free over the air signals or HBO, which has a streaming option.

I think Dish sees these providers as offering a devalued product as the customers can still get their programming other ways. Because of this Dish feels they should get a discount on the programming.

Their site shows Showtime and the DISH movie pack as being part of the free three months of premium service.
As a current subscriber I have Starz @ $5.
Starz has been advertising $5 a month for three months for their standalone app. The availability of them undercutting providers in cost may be a contributing factor. It looks like the ongoing cost for their app will be $10 worse (for DISH) it is $8.99 on amazon a month as the regular ongoing cost.

Speculating - as already mentioned there is a dispute coming or DISH has an agreement to incorporate Starz into the packages when they raise the prices next month. Starz has been re positioning themselves as a competitive premium network so I really don't think they would become part of packages.
