Maybe Verizon dosen't roam on CS.

Actually they do. The vast majority of the towers in the state are CS towers, the roaming agreement has been in place for years. I am still thinking there was a setting not quite right on the phone.

Like I said, why would I want to use a cell phone or tablet for data at home when I have a decent home connection feeding two nice desktops and one very nice laptop?

I would sure want it if my power went out like during a bad winter storm so I could access the internet on my phone.

Id just get a simple phone for calling then and use the tablet for surfing the net away from home. That way you have good voice coverage, home internet for when you are home, and the tablet for on the go.

Time Warner in his area never has outages. Even in storms.

Edit: Forgot the smiley. :D

Neither does Comcast here. But if I lose power so does my Comcast modem.

That is what a UPS is for. Gets you through most of the power outages as long as they are not extended ones.

I should look into one. Not sure if I want to spend money on that though.

You’re really grasping at straws here, aren’t you? Seriously, I can’t even remember the last time we had power outage. Two years ago maybe? I don’t know. Maybe had a grand total of four since the Great Northeast Blackout of 2003. My UPS are good for 45 minutes or so for shorter outages, at home I can pull in about 600Kb on my air card with a lower signal on my laptop, which would be bearable.

We don't have much here either. But it's just nice to have a good data signal at home.

Why? The whole reason I have a cell phone, tablet and laptop is for mobile computing. My low signal gives me about 600K down which isn't much slower then typical granny DSL from Verizon. I don't use cellular data when I'm at home, if my cable modem went down, or the power went out 600K would work for me until the service gets restored. Or I could just go outside, sit in the backyard and get 2Mb down. Neither AT&T or Verizon give me anything better so its a moot point. As long as I can use voice at home that's fine with me.
