I'm having a terrible time trying to find a switch to work with my DTV service.
I don't know much about this, but installation seems to be simple enough.
I can not find a splitter that will work. I have a regular DTV setup with whole home DVR and 5 receivers, and will be adding 2.
Can someone recommend a splitter/switch that will work? I am pretty positive that i have a SWM? system.

Thanks for you help!

You will need a SWiM 16 if you are going to have 7 receivers and a DVR .
You cannot just split it any more with only a Swim 8 when trying to do 9 tuners.

Thank you. If I decide to reduce that to 6 total receivers including the DVR will I need a SWiM 8?
I did not know that the DVR needed another port. Thanks for the info.

Each recvr counts as a tuner, the DVR's have 2 tuners, the HR34 (Genie) accounts for 5 tuners.

With your listed recvrs you mentioned above, 5 recvrs plus a DVR, thats total of 7 tuners, so Yes a SWM 8 would work.

your dvr dont need another port, it just uses 2 tuners. a typical swm systems is 8 tuners or less, anything more and u will need a swm 16 ( a legacy lnb and 4 lines ran between the dish and swm 16 multiswitch ), here is how you count them, the genie (hr-34) is 5 tuners, a hddvr (hr2x and also the r22) is 2 tuners, a standard dvr r16 is 2 tuners, hd and standard receivers are 1 tuner. im not really sure what you are saying you have, but im going to give u a example and you can count. lets say you have 1 hddvr ( 2 tuners ) and as u say 5 receivers lets say 3 hd receivers ( 3 tuners ) and 2 standard receivers (2 tuners ) so in this scenario you have 2+3+2 and that equals 7 tuners, which is under the 8 so a typical swm system will work.

Exactly Swim 8 and 16 is the amount of Single wire Tuners inside it can handle. Not ports.

:welcome to Satelliteguys wasoxfan!

If you have a swm system now, you don't need an additional splitter or multiswitch if you stay with 8 tuners or less. Press the - button on your remote. Does it say you have a swm setup? If so, you must have a sws8 splitter somewhere with two open ports on it, or a swm8 switch. How many cables are coming in from your dish? If one, you likely have an sws8 splitter. If four, then you probably have an swm8 switch. You can use one for an additional receiver, but as others have noted, 8 is the maximum without going to a swm16 switch.
