Speed HD - just a whine...

I know, this issue has been done "ad nauseam" on this forum but I need the catharsis. I can't believe Dish still cannot provide HD Speed! I guess there are not enough customers that watch Speed to make this a critical issue for Charlie and the gang.

I got a promotional mailing from Direct TV yesterday and found myself actually going over it carefully to see the latest "deal". Then I catch myself just staring at that "Speed HD" on their list and start thinking I just gotta sign up. But, I'll just send another e-mail to Dish and wait.

Anyway, I am disgusted! (There, now I feel better)

I can not believe Dish still does not have Logo, MavHD, or Here! Networks. Be thankful you got atleast the option to view the Speed Network !

I know what you mean. I feel the same way every week when watching the Ultimate Fighter in glorious SD on Spike TV and it's only filling half of my screen because it's letterboxed. It really pisses me off.

Now that the F1 season is pretty much over, I can live without SpeedHD until next spring. This of course means that it will show up on Monday morning once the season ending F1 race is held this Sunday.

Just remember, one persons must have is the next person's waste of bandwidth. When it comes to Speed HD, I am in the latter camp. Just don't begrudge me my desire for Comedy Central, E! (both when launched), Spike and IFC.

Out of the channels mentioned in this thread SpkeHD has the most HD usually, 8 hours today... here are some examples...

SpeedHD will go live 30 minutes after the race finishes Sunday afternoon.

Seriously, perhaps Dish should work with Versus network to wrestle the F1 and MotoGP rights from Speed, and since Versus already has the HD channel on Dish, it would render Speed almost meaningless.

I'm still waiting for ESPN 8 in HD. Nothing like watching the Ocho in HD.

The F1 racing didn't show to be HD... I rarely check speed during the day on Sundays... (football or drag racing)

I am glad my favorite driver retired and I find myself watching NASCAR less now. Otherwise I would be mad not to have Speed HD. I wish they would get it but we all know that rule..."wish in one hand...&^*&*^ in the other"

Well, Speed did give up WRC a few years ago, so Versus could grab that up if they wanted. Also A1GP and GP2 Asia are on here in the US. So they could snatch those up also. But something tells me that Versus wants to be a "must have" channel, and with that, they just want big names. F1 I could see them trying to get and speed not fighting too hard to keep.

I also give my thumbs up for ESPN8-HD. Instead of the World Series of Poker, I want to see the World Series of those Casino games shown in National Lampoon's Vegas Vacation. You know, pick a number, etc...

Now that the Formula 1 season is almost over and I missed most of the races since I'm on the HD only package (thanks Dish ), is there ANY hope that we'll get to see SPEED HD atleast next season. This is the one channel I wish Dish would move quickly on.

On the last Charlie Chat they mentioned that they were hoping to have it by the end of the year.

There won't be any new national HD channels added until next year when Charlie will again re-arrange the packages and thus increase prices. They will dangle the new channels just out of reach of the remaining hd-only subs in some crazy-turbo package. Not enough people will bite, and a few months later they will quietly re-offer an hd-only package (with the new channels), of course at a higher price.

It'd be nice to have a little more than just CNN by the time the election rolls around.

On the same Charlie Chat they did say they were in talks with Fox and hoped to have them by the end of the year.

But seriously, there's some HD on 110, so it *could* happen...probably not until they go all MPEG4, though, to free up transponders I would guess.
